Publicist:  Frank Roszak Promotions

Review:  The music of New Orleans is world famous for its intensity, drive, and style.  Add  the blues into that mix and you have Keith Stone with Red Gravy, a local band that is starting to take the world by storm.  This is blues you start to feel deep down in your soul until it takes over your whole body and leaves you with no choice but to get up and dance.  This music is tailor-made for placement on such shows as NCIS: New Orleans, among others.  This band deserves industry attention and a bigger stage.  Jump on the train before it leaves the station.

Recommendation:  If you love the blues and the music of New Orleans, then you simply MUST add this one.  Go Get it today!

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  Inspired by the myriad of games on Nintendo, England based singer-songwriter Shoshy Boo delivers an interesting collection of indie/alt pop songs.  With her sweet voice, Shoshy brings the listener into her world of fantasy, creating mental images that peacefully co-exist with the music and images that Nintendo created for these games.  In fact, some of these songs would make great radio tunes, especially “Pansy Dreams.”  For the most part, the songs are short and sweet.  We also love her mashup within her cover of Todd Rundgren‘s “It Wouldn’t Have Made any Difference.”  She reminds us of indie artist Lenka, and we think she has the potential to do well on the indie music scene.

Recommendation:  Definitely worthy of your time – check it out today on BandCamp.

Artist NameBirds and Arrows

Album NameArbitrary Magic

Label:  Baby Gas Mask Records

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Overloaded; 2.  No Hand me Downs; 3.  Adrift; 4.  Stay Down; 5.  All Souls Sell Out; 6.  The Distance that we Drive; 7.  San Jacinto; 8.  Animatronic Heart

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  We have loved this group since we first heard of them, and are so happy that they have finally released an album.  They were nominated last year for an LA Music Critic Award for their single, “Stay Down,” and the album includes a ton of new songs that are every bit as worthy of critical acclaim as that single.  In addition, the album is a political statement of our current government, giving lead vocalist Andrea Connolly and her partner, Pete Connolly, a wealth of material on which to write some amazing songs, including what could become the anthem for the mid-term election cycle, “Overloaded.”  There isn’t a weak track on this album.  All hail the new face of rock and roll.

Recommendation:  Run, don’t walk, and Get this one Today!

Artist NameThe Persian Leaps

Album Name Pop That Goes Crunch

Label:    Self-released

Genre:  Indie Pop/Rock

Track Listing:  1.  See me Unaware; 2.  The Weather; 3.  Firestarter; 4.  Dottie, Queen of the West; 5.  Picture my Reaction; 6.  Pretty Boy; 7.  Under the Lilacs; 8.  Silent Treatment; 9.  Entropy; 10.  Hard Feelings; 11.  About the Lions; 12.  Anthem; 13.  Terribly Happy; 14.  Not That Brave; 15.  Truth = Consequences; 16.  Even Less; 17.  Time Slips; 18.  Sleepless

Publicist:  Behind the Curtains Media

Review:  This album is a remixed/remastered anthology of the band’s five previous EPs and one new single, “Time Slips.”  We previously reviewed the band’s Bicycle Face EP last year.  We must admit that this time around the band has seriously improved on their sound, and are ready to take their next step towards becoming a well-known band.  These songs are definitely radio worthy, and would do well on the college radio circuit.  Best tracks include “Dottie, Queen of the West,” “Picture my Reaction,” “Under the Lilacs,” “Entropy,” “Anthem,” “Not That Brave,” and the new single, “Time Slips.”

Recommendation:  This anthology is worthy of your collection.  Grab it.

Artist Name Lee Ainley’s Blues Storm

Album NameBankruptcy

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Blues/Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Bankruptcy; 2.  Lady Loretta (radio edit); 3.  Crosshairs; 4.  Earth Mother

Publicist:  ABIK Radio Promotions

Review:  This new four-song EP comes about six months after their previous release Shoot me Down, which we reviewed back in May.  Lee Ainley proves once again that she is one of the hottest blues/rock singers in Europe and probably the world with her soulful tunes that will appeal to most lovers of rock, soul and the blues.  She gives to the blues what Janis Joplin gave to rock – a true front-woman who knows how to deliver great jams.  You can’t go wrong with any of these four songs, and we bet they will become some of your favorites.

Recommendation:  Don’t waste any more time – go Get this one!

Get it or forget it – South Florida Jazz Orchestra, Vuyo, Mac Murray, William Elliott Whitmore, XTR HUMAN

We’re down to our final two Get it or Forget it articles for October before heading into the home stretch in November.  We still have plenty of new music for you to check out, starting with these five artists, so let’s get going.

Artist Name South Florida Jazz Orchestra

Album NameThe Music of Gary Lindsay:  Are we Still Dreaming

Label:  Summit Records

Genre:  Jazz

Track Listing:  1.  Moment in Time; 2.  Spring is Here/Up Jumped Spring; 3.  Toward Hope; 4.  Easy Living; 5.  Better Days Ahead; 6.  Are we Still Dreaming; 7.  ‘Round Midnight; 8.  Ummg

Publicist:  Mouthpiece Music

ReviewGary Lindsay is a Grammy-nominated arranger of big band music.  The South Florida Jazz Orchestra, created and directed by bassist Chuck Bergeron, pays homage to Lindsay’s work with this stunning collection of some of his best known works. The album has already reached the Top Ten on the jazz charts, and we believe that this collection will remain a viable source of jazz music history.  Grab a glass of wine and sit back and enjoy these relaxing tunes.

Recommendation:  If you love jazz, then this is a must for your collection.

Artist NameVuyo

Album NameHome Cooked Meals

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Hip-Hop/Rap

Track Listing:  1.  Intro; 2.  THBP; 3.  Vuyo’s Woman; 4.  Can’t Go; 5.  Floating; 6.  Window; 7.  Outro

Publicist:  Mystic Sons

Review:  Yuyo is a Norwegian/South African rapper and producer and part of the North Of collective.  On his debut EP, he shows that he knows how to not only write brilliant rhymes, but also how to spit them with the best.  His lyrics have deeper meaning than your typical hip-hop, especially “THBP” (The Half-Blood Prince), which is inspired by Harry Potter, bringing in real-world comparisons to this story.    This is hip-hop for nerds, as they will have fun exploring the deeper meanings of the words and songs.

Recommendation:  Definitely worth checking out.

Artist NameMac Murray

Album Name Civil Wars

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Civil War; 2.  Deep End; 3.  Magic; 4.  That Look; 5.  Crusade; 6.  Be Like You (bonus track)

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  UK-based singer-songwriter Mac Murray has hooked up with Jamie Bragg of JB Studios to create a stellar EP reminiscent of some of the best from Kings of Leon.  The album kicks off with the amazing drums and guitar riffs of the title track, which is brilliantly written and sung by Murray.  “Civil War” could easily top the charts, and like the rest of this all-too-short five-song EP, is extremely radio friendly and deserves industry attention.  This one definitely deserves to be heard over and over again, and we love every song.  We think these songs are also ripe for placement opportunities, including the emotional and hard-driving “Deep End.”

Recommendation:  Run out and Get this one!

Artist NameWilliam Elliott Whitmore

Album NameKilonova

Label:  Bloodshot Records

Genre:  Americana

Track Listing:  1.  Fear of Trains; 2.  Busted; 3.  Don’t Pray on Me; 4.  Hot Blue and Righteous; 5.  Five Feet High and Rising; 6.  Ain’t no Sunshine; 7.  One Glass at a Time; 8.  Run Johnny Run; 9.  Country Blues; 10.  Bat Chain Puller

Publicist:  Bloodshot Records

Review:  After six albums of original tunes that run the gamut from country and blues to folk and punk, William Elliott Whitmore brings us a cover album of 10 songs that have influenced his 15 year career.  His gravelly voice is perfect for this type of music, and he brings such passion to his interpretations of these songs, creating songs that will easily stand the test of time.  They are worthy of inclusion in music history classes and belong in the music library of every lover of great music.  Best tracks include “Fear of Trains,” “Busted,” and “Ain’t no Sunshine.”

Recommendation:  Definitely Get this one.

Artist Name XTR HUMAN

Album Name Reflections

Label:  Blackjack Illuminist Records

Genre:  Shoegaze/Post-Punk

Track Listing:  1.  Immersive Spaces; 2.  Disturbia; 3.  True Lies; 4.  Courage; 5.  Limelight; 6.  Reflections

Publicist:  Blackjack Illuminist Records

Review:  From an electronic opening track to full-on post-punk, XTR Human quickly show why they are such a hot ticket on the underground German music scene.  The beat comes in red-hot and the guitars elevate the sound to an almost hypnotic pace as the music takes over your senses, bursting forth in a cavalcade of sounds and experiences.  This music will make just about everyone want to get up and dance to the sheer power of the beat.  It is non-stop, and truly enticing.

Recommendation:  Definitely give this one a spin – we guarantee you can’t sit still while listening.

Get it or forget it – Taco Mouth, Rich Krueger, The Stick Arounds, Public Practice, Hypnodrone Ensemble

It’s Friday again, and we are headed off to Bozeman to work the Cole Swindell, Dustin Lynch and Lauren Alana concert.  Before we go, we wanted to share these five albums being released today.

Artist NameTaco Mouth

Album NameA Deafening Silence

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Punk/Rock

Track Listing:  1.  You Say; 2.  Romero; 3.  Burn This City Down; 4.  Let’s get a Little Bit; 5.  Queen of the Stags; 6.  Sinners; 7.  Fighting for Today; 8.  You Can’t Stop Me; 9.  Katie; 10.  Waiting for the Sun

Publicist:  Wolfievibes Publicity

Review:  We introduced this amazing Nashville-based punk band to you last month when their song “You Say” was selected as one of our Ten Amazing Videos for September.  Their new album is very relevant and timely, and they make their voices heard with the truth of their lyrics.  This band should be the poster child for the Rock the Vote movement, as they mix their love of the Ramones and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs into music that moves you, coupled with lyrics that make you think and hopefully act accordingly, all while having fun.  Nashville is in for a treat tonight at their CD Release show at The 5 Spot.  We hope the world is ready for their message.

Recommendation:  Don’t think twice – run out and Get this one today!

Artist Name Rich Krueger

Album Name NOWThen

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Folk Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Kenny’s (It’s Always Christmas in This Bar); 2.  Girls go for Arse’oles; 3.  Waltz (Terpsichore); 4.  Don; 5.  In Regard of Flight; 6.  Elizabeth; 7.  In Between Kingfish; 8.  The Great War; 9.  Por Que no me Amas (Love Me); 10.  Yesterday’s Wrong (Green); 11. Me & Mr. Johnson; 12.  O What a Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Day; 13.  À Tout Jamais (Pour Eva); 14.  Elizabeth (RePlease); 15.  Think What you Will

Publicist:  KG Music Press

Review:  Over the past couple of years Rich Krueger has been honing his craft, resulting in his becoming the New Folk Winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival this year.  With a sound similar to the legendary Jim Croce, Krueger creates memorable songs that are fun to listen to while telling interesting stories, starting with his first track, “Kenny’s (It’s Always Christmas in This Bar).”  This one will soon become one of your favorites.  There is not a weak song in the bunch, so put it on repeat and enjoy the ride.  You’re in for a treat and a long trip.

Recommendation:  Get it now!

Artist NameThe Stick Arounds

Album NameWays to Hang On

Label:  GTG Records

Genre:  Power Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Get U Back; 2.  Better off Like This; 3.  Man of Action; 4.  Majestic Figureheads; 5.  What was Comin; 6.  Great America; 7.  Hazelwood; 8.  All I can Take; 9.  Shakes; 10.  Falling Down on You

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  There is a lot of tongue in check in the name “The Stick Arounds” because this is a band whose members have been around a long time, with each member averaging 15-30 years playing in bands.  At an age when most musicians are packing it in, The Stick Arounds are just hitting their prime, and that experience shows in every track of their sophomore album.  They hit the ground running on “Get U Back” and never slow down as they deliver potential hit after potential hit, all the way through their closing song, “Falling Down on You.”  These songs are extremely radio friendly and deserve to be getting heavy rotation.  You won’t regret a single minute of time spent listening to this incredible band.

Recommendation:  Run out and Get this one!  We guarantee you’ll like it.

Artist NamePublic Practice

Album NameDistance is a Mirror

Label:  Wharf Cat Records

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Fate/Glory; 2.  Bad Girl(s); 3.  Foundation; 4.  Into the Ring

Publicist:  Wharf Cat Records

Review:  With a sound reminiscent of Oingo Boingo and the cutting lyrics of Danny Elfman, Public Practice bursts onto the scene via their all-too short four-song EP Distance is a Mirror.  Singer Sam York perfectly converts the lyrics into powerful vocals, while supported by guitarist Vince McClelland, synth/bassist/vocalist Drew Citron and drummer/programmer/producer Scott Rosenthal.  Their music will get you on your feet, ready to get your dance on, while the lyrics will speak volumes to your mind.  C’mon, get funky with Public Practice.  We can’t wait to see what comes next.

Recommendation:  Definitely give this one a spin.

Artist NameHypnodrone Ensemble

Album NamePlays Orchestral Favourites

Label:  Wolves and Vibrancy Records

Genre:  Space Rock Instrumental

Track Listing:  1.  Serial Staging; 2.  Orbital Pertubation; 3.  Restabilization; 4.  Monotransitive; 5.  Pulsations in the Hypnosphere

Publicist:  Viral Propaganda PR

Review:  Hypnodrone Ensemble is composed of Aidan Baker (Nadja) and Eric Quach (thisquietarmy), along with drummers David Dunnett, Jérémie Mortier (Alice in the Cities, Nearest Gas Station), and Felipe Salazar (Caudal).  On this project, they are joined by Simon Goff (Molecular, Bee And Flower) on violin, Duchamp on baritone guitar, Felix-Florian Tödtloff (ex-Sun Worship) on bass, and Diego Ferri on synths.  The result is a breathtaking audio journey through time and space, creating mental pictures as visually stunning as anything Hollywood could dream up.  Come take the journey to a brave new world.

Recommendation:  Definitely worth the time to listen, especially if you love music that stimulates the senses.

Get it or forget it – Louis Rive, A Shoreline Dream, Rey, Rude Dude and the Creek Freaks, Monad

As of today, we currently have 138 submissions still to be reviewed before the end of November, on top of the 335 we have already done since June.  As you can imagine, it’s going to be a monumental task to sort through them to glean the nominations for our next set of LA Music Critic Awards, but we are up to the task and plan to announce the nominations on December 7.  In the meantime, here are five releases from earlier this summer.

Artist NameLouis Rive

Album Name The Cheap Part of Town

Label:  771572 Records

Genre:  Folk

Track Listing:  1.  Francis Drake’s Last Trip; 2.  Streetlights of London; 3.  Cider Al; 4.  Mulberry Mews; 5.  The Cheap Part of Town; 6.  House of God; 7.  Lowlife; 8.  Take me to Virginia; 9.  Alone

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  Barcelona-based Scottish singer-songwriter Louis Rive brings a new sound to traditional folk music with his brand of storytelling, keeping these folk stories alive for another generation.  The tunes are simply written with just vocals and guitar, keeping the focus on the story itself.  The words he uses create stunning mental pictures that make the listener feel as if he is right in the middle of the story.  Each one is a masterpiece, and will teach as well as entertain.

Recommendation:  Give this one a spin.

Artist NameA Shoreline Dream

Album NameWaitout

Label:  Latenight Weeknight Records

Genre:  Dream Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Waitout; 2.  In the Ready Sound; 3.  Barnum; 4.  New York; 5.  Projections

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion PR

Review:  Colorado gives us A Shoreline Dream, a dream rock band that mixes shoegaze with postpunk to create a sound filled with memorable licks and dreamy vocals.  While there are vocals to most of the songs, the music is predominantly the focus with killer instrumental riffs throughout.  This is music that is instantly unforgettable, with stellar guitar and drums throughout.  This music would play well on album rock radio, as well as provide suitable placements for film and television.  Slip into the dream and enjoy the trip.

Recommendation:  You should definitely check this one out.  It has a unique quality that belongs in your music library.

Artist NameRey

Album NameWindose 10

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Hip-hop

Track Listing:  1.  Hello; 2.  Flex; 3.  Story; 4.  Extra; 5.  Gore; 6.  Shine

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  This is the first true international rap/hip-hop artist we have reviewed, and Rey seems to have gone to great links to learn this American musical form.  It is full of colorful language, anger and angst, just like the myriad of hip-hop here in the States.  Unfortunately, it does nothing to stand out, and therefore can easily be lost in the quagmire of similar music flooding our country.  We think he has the talent but he just hasn’t figured out how to be unique in his strength.  We hope he finds a way before he is just another artist in an extremely crowded genre.

Recommendation:  Give it a chance – he may surprise you.

Artist NameRude Dude and the Creek Freaks

Album NameRude Dude and the Creek Freaks

Label:  Graveface Records and Curiosities

Genre:  Garage Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Spinning; 2.  Tiptoe; 3.  Travellin’ Man; 4.  Lost my Head; 5.  Interlude (Disco Submarine); 6.  Dancing in the Dark; 7.  Spiders; 8.  Pyramid Scheme; 9.  Dan Halen; 10.  Outro (How Rob Feels)

Publicist:  Noisy Ghost PR

ReviewRyan Graveface and his label have been supporting local Atlanta artists for quite a few years, and continuing to do so for their latest local release.  On the sophomore album from this Savannah quintet, they show that they can rock it with the big boys, turning in a worthy effort that Jimi Hendrix would have been proud to endorse.  They mix a healthy dose of psychedelia with their rock to form an eerie sound that immediately identifies them as leaders in the underground indie rock movement, bringing back memories of LSD and acid trips that heavily influenced the music of the late 60s.  Try this one on for your next weekend party or rave.

Recommendation:  Definitely worth checking out.

Artist Name: Monad

Album Name Monad

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Psychedelia

Track Listing:  1.  A Knife; 2.  Tension; 3.  Turning Wheels; 4.  Sun Song; 5.  My Eyes are Open; 6.  Out Through the Livingroom Window

Publicist:  Outpost Media PR

Review:  Israeli guitar virtuoso Ittamar Erb has created a special sound with his band, as they take psychedelia to a new plain.  The EP starts out with “A Knife,” an amazing instrumental, before adding vocals on “Tension.”  You will not easily forget this music, although you have to listen closely to fully understand the lyrical content.  Our favorite track is “Sun Song.” although “My Eyes are Open” is a close second.

Recommendation:  If you like well-crafted music, then definitely check this one out.  We think it is head-and-shoulders over music created by other psychedelia artists.

Artist NameS U M

Album NameS U M

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Jazz/Pop/Soul/Funk

Track Listing:  1.  Welcome to SUM; 2.  Power Anthem; 3.  Last Prayer for a Change; 4.  It’s Alright to be Me; 5.  Test the Waters; 6.  Free Style (Interlude); 7.  Sinking Sand; 8.  Funk Hip Nasty; 9.  It’s Alright to be Me (Reprise)

Publicist:  EMPKT PR

Review:  S U M (pronounced SOOM) is a new collective of musicians created by Steve Belvilus, with lead vocals by Patryce Williams.  They combine the best of jazz, pop, soul and funk to create their own brand of awesome, making their sound available to the vast world of indie music lovers through a style of jazz that is more personal and which promotes freedom of self.  Just one listen to the introductory tune “Welcome to S U M” and it will become quickly evident that this is not your mama’s jazz.  This is jazz that makes you want to dance, expand your mind with the cultural excellence that is jazz and to simply enjoy the moment while these incredible rhythms and harmonies take hold of your ears and mind.  Take this one in again and again.  It will definitely improve your self-image.

Recommendation:  Definitely Get this one!

Artist NameThe Venus Fly Trap

Album Name Icon

Label:  Glass Modern Records

Genre:  Electronic

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion PR

Review:  Finally, an indie band for nerds, that is lovers of British pop cultural icons like Doctor Who.  This electronic outfit uses sound clips from BBC shows to create music that will stimulate your brain as you try to remember which episode the clip comes from.  It is truly different from any other UK band we have previously reviewed.  “Vitesse” sounds like it is sung by Rocky Horror’s Riff Raff as a segue from “Time Warp.”  This one will keep you on your toes and make you yearn for the dance floor.

Recommendation:  Definitely check it out.

Artist NameTeddy Glass

Album Name:  Nights and Weekends

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Pop/Soul

Track Listing:  1.  Lean On; 2.  Genevieve; 3.  Nights and Weekends; 4.  Stereo Field; 5.  Doveskin; 6.  Grindin’ It; 7.  Carrion; 8.  Rich Kid

Publicist:  Noisy Ghost PR

Review:  The music of Teddy Glass is a combination of southern smoothness and charm with Detroit soul, resulting in a form of music that is sonically soothing while also being stimulating to your dance sensors.  It is feel good music that goes well with comfort foods, balancing out your life and separating you from the cares of this world.  All eight songs are fun and worthy of your attention, but we think you will be playing the title cut and “Stereo Field” over and over again.

Recommendation:  This one is worth it – Get it today!

Artist NameFrank Gambale Soulmine

Album NameSalve

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Jazz

Track Listing:  1.  My Soulmine; 2.  Fear of Flyin’; 3.  Checked Out; 4.  Love is Always the Answer; 5.  Slipstream Cowboys; 6.  Through the Darkness; 7.  The Day Everything Changed; 8.  Within my Borders; 9.  Let’s Just Talk About It; 10.  Dream Love

Publicist:  Self-promoted

ReviewSNEAK PREVIEW – Twelve years ago when I was writing for Music Connection Magazine, I had the opportunity to review a young artist named Boca.  She impressed me then and she continues to impress since she hooked up with her guitarist husband Frank Gambale to form Soulmine, an amazing jazz collective vocal experience that we simply adore.  With several members on lead vocals, and an amazing array of stellar musicians creating the music, this band is one of the best jazz bands in the world.  They add in a touch of funk and soul and leave the listener with an earful of sonic sweetness that will never be forgotten.  “Slipstream Cowboys” will bring back memories of classic Steely Dan.  Sit back and put this one on repeat while the music melts away the cares of the day.  The album will be available on October 28.

Recommendation:  Run out and Get this one.

Artist NameDavid Lumsden & Friends

Album NameHues of Blues

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Blues

Track Listing:  1.  You Got to Lose (ft David Lumsden); 2.  Further on up the Road (ft Bill Evans); 3.  You’re Ruining my Bad Reputation (ft Wayne Carter); 4.  Brush with the Blues (ft David Lumsden); 5.  What’s the Matter with the Mill (ft Reggie Britton); 6.  Raised me Right (ft Mary Jo Curry); 7.  On Bended Knee (ft Steve “the Harp” Mehlberg); 8.  Thrill is Gone (ft Wayne Carter); 9.  Cut you Loose (ft Steve “the Harp” Mehlberg); 10.  Rollin’ and Tumblin’ (ft David Lumsden); 11.  Georgia on my Mind (ft Wayne Carter); 12.  Rain Song (ft Andon Davis)

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  There are a handful of great blues guitarists, and David Lumsden is definitely one of them.  He has assembled a group of similarly amazing guitarists to create this stellar collection of blues songs that will get you on your feet and in the mood for great music.  You can’t go wrong with any of these songs, and they will satisfy your most severe blues cravings.  Grab yourself a drink and let the sound of David Lumsden and his friends fill the night with some of the best blues jams ever recorded.

Recommendation:  If you love the blues, you owe it to yourself to Get this one.

Review:  Ska legends Neville & Sugary Staple have hooked up to provide us with an amazing collaborative effort which marries ska, reggae and punk to create an album of memorable songs that have a worldwide social message, reminding us of the incredible work that Neville, The Specials and 2Tone Records have accomplished over the past almost 40 years.  They are joined in their effort by Roddy Radiation (aka Roddy Byers), the former guitarist of The Specials.  The entire album is full of energy, offering upbeat songs that need to be heard, and there is not a weak track among the bunch.  It is impossible not to move to these songs, but also take the time to listen to their lyrics, which speak to morals, life, fashion and love.  Share this one with people you love.

Get it or forget it – Kirk Fletcher, Rachel Eckroth, Rich Hope, Kramies, Lauren Henderson

Happy Friday – we made it through another week, and my Brewers need to make it through two more wins to get to face the Red Sox in the World Series.  We’ve got some smoking hot music for your Friday, with five new albums being released today.  Enjoy your weekend.

Artist NameKirk Fletcher

Album NameHold On

Label:  Elaysia Music

Genre:  Blues

Track Listing:  1.  Two Steps Forward; 2.  You Need Me; 3.  Sad Sad Day; 4.  The Answer; 5.  Time’s Ticking; 6.  Dupree; 7.  Gotta Right; 8.  Hold On

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  Kirk Fletcher is the consummate guitarist, and has worked on several Grammy-nominated albums for the likes of Joe Bonamassa and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.  This album is the perfect “treat” for anyone who loves great guitar work, the blues, gospel or just damn good music.  It is Fletcher’s fifth solo effort, and his finest to date.  Starting with the soulful “Two Steps Forward” on which he shows his expertise as a guitarist while trading vocals with the amazing Mahalia Barnes, this album is a collection of some of the hottest blues we have ever reviewed.  He shows his softer side on the smooth R&B-styled “You Need Me” before giving us a New Orleans-inspired “second line” tune called “Sad Sad Day.”  Every track is inspired, especially the gospel-tinged title track which features Jade McCrea as a guest vocalist.  You can’t go wrong with this one – it will truly make your day.

Recommendation:  Don’t delay – Get this one TODAY!

Artist NameRachel Eckroth

Album NameWhen it Falls

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Walls; 2.  Love is Lost; 3.  Dark Waters; 4.  It Never Was; 5.  Strangest Dream; 6.  The Wasted Years; 7.  Collecting Bruises; 8.  Call my Name; 9.  We’d be on Fire; 10.  To a Ghost; 11.  When it Falls

Publicist:  The Syndicate

Review:  Although probably best known as a jazz keyboardist, Rachel Eckroth is a superior singer-songwriter who has assembled an all-star cast for her latest solo effort, including having Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie, Tedeschi Trucks Band) produce the album with guitar work by Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall II and drums by Matt Chamberlain.  The result is a lush soundscape of incredibleness from start to finish, including an amazing cover of David Bowie‘s “Love is Lost” which we have previously featured in our Ten Amazing Videos released in September article.   With this much talent, we expect Eckroth to rise to the top and soon become a household name.   Her writing abilities are surpassed only by her amazing voice, and we are going to enjoy listening to the fruits of her labor over and over again.

Recommendation:  Are you kidding me?  This one is a no-brainer – GET it now!

Artist NameRich Hope

Album NameI’m All Yours

Label:  Planned Obsolescence Recording & Novelty Inc.

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  It Come Alive; 2.  Golden Clouds; 3.  Creepstone; 4.  La Iguana; 5.  Blow Away; 6.  5 Cents a Dance; 7.  Some Kind of Love; 8.  Paranoia Blues; 9.  Runnin’ Shoes; 10.  Heartbreaker

Publicist:  Howlin’ Wuelf Media

Review:  Canadian Rich Hope delivers a stellar indie rock album with his full length album since 2009.  His sound is very classic rock, with impressive guitar and organ in the instrumental mix, supporting his soaring vocals and well-crafted lyrics.  From the first notes of “It Come Alive,” it becomes quickly crystal clear that the listener is in for a treat, and Hope delivers on that premise.  These tunes will have you playing air guitar and dancing in the streets with their raw energy and power.  Every song is worthy of repeated plays, and this one will soon become one of your favorite albums.

Recommendation:  Definitely Get this one.

Artist NameKramies

Album NameOf all the Places Been & Everything the End

Label:  Hidden Shoal Records

Genre:  Indie Folk/Dream Pop

Track Listing:  1.  The Woods the Storm the Tale; 2.  Of all the Places Been; 3.  Ireland; 4.  The Writings; 5.  Everything the End; 6.  The Hill Dwellers

Publicist:  Noisy Ghost PR

Review:  Kramies is the first male singer I have ever compared to Enya, but his dreamy folk/pop sound instantly brings Enya’s similar style to mind.  The soundscape created on this album is refreshing and relaxing, resulting in an EP that will provide hours of relaxation and relief from a crazy hectic schedule.  While it is named for two of the songs on the EP, the central tune is “Ireland,” which showcases all the reasons we think this folk troubadour is going places in the indie music scene.  While the entire EP is only 23 minutes long, it will be the best 23 minutes you have ever spent listening to music, and you will find yourself listening to it again and again.  Enjoy this masterpiece and share it with someone you love.

Recommendation:  You simply must Get this one!

Artist Name Lauren Henderson

Album NameRiptides

Label:  Brontosaurus Records

Genre:  Latin Jazz/Soul

Track Listing:  1.  Amame; 2.  Riptide; 3.  Separate; 4.  Bajito; 5.  Ennui; 6.  Show Control

Publicist:  EMPKT PR

Review:  Combining soul with Latin jazz is the trademark of Lauren Henderson, and she delivers a gem in her latest EP.  It has everything you love about jazz, combined with the Latin and soul influences that Henderson grew up with, resulting in an uplifting album that will soon have you soaring on top of the world.  She features Steinway Artist and Grammy-nominated pianist Chris Pattishall, guitarist Nick Tannura, bassist Eric England, and Steven Colbert’s incredible drummer/percussionist Joe Saylor.  Our favorite cuts include the title track, the pure jazz sound of “Separate,” “Bajito,” “Ennui,” and “Slow Control,” basically the entire EP!

Recommendation:  If you love jazz, you will adore this EP.

Get it or forget it – Linda Em, Subways on the Sun, John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring, GABI, Rude Audio

My Brewers had a rough time in Los Angeles, and face a must win game in Milwaukee on Friday to force a Game 7.  Good thing we’ve got some great music to help ease the pain.  Let’s get going.

Artist NameLinda Em

Album Name London Irish

Label:  Talking Elephant Records

Genre:  Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Wild Fire; 2.  Two Hands; 3.  Little Lightmaker; 4.  White Horse

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion PR

Review:  Linda Em was born in Ireland and currently lives in London.  Her voice is incredible, mixing the etherealness of Enya with the more upbeat sound of the Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan.  The duet with her brilliant producer Gavin Glass on “Wild Fire,” which is the first single, will definitely stimulate your senses and make you want more of this truly amazing artist.  The video for the song is very sensuous and provocative, and will likewise visually stimulate you.  All four of the tracks on this EP are memorable, and will definitely have you listening again and again.

Recommendation:   Don’t wait for the train to leave the station.  Get this one now.

Artist Name Subways on the Sun

Album Name Capsize

Label:  Spartan Records

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Just to be With You; 2.  Works; 3.  Hope you Like Getting Old; 4.  Capsize; 5.  Tongues; 6.  I’m an Island; 7.  Side you Play; 8.  Know it All; 9.  Time’s not Long; 10.  On Repeat

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion PR

Review:  Seattle has long been a hotbed of indie music, and they have launched another great one in the form of Subways on the Sun.  Their sophomore album, Capsize, is everything you want in an indie rock band, and hits the ground running from the first note of the anthemic opener, “Just to be With You.”  The band has been compared to everyone from Muse and Jimmy Eat World to The Cure and Death Cab for Cutie, and they have earned those comparisons.  Their music is a prism for their individual beliefs, and each member contributes to the sound, creating a lush cascade of sound for the listener.  Best tracks include “Just to be With You,” the first single “Hope you Like Getting Old” (which is already getting radio airplay in Seattle), the title track, the rockers “Tongues” and “Know it All,” and the introspective “I’m an Island” and “On Repeat.”

Recommendation:  Run out and Get this one.

Artist NameJohn McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring

Album Name Live in San Francisco

Label:  Abstract Logix

Genre:  Jazz

Track Listing:  1.  Meeting of the Spirits; 2.  Birds of Fire; 3.  A Lotus on Irish Streams; 4.  The Dance of Maya; 5.  Trilogy; 6.  Earth Ship; 7.  Eternity’s Breath Part 1 & 2; 8.  Be Happy

Publicist:  MAD Ink PR

Review:  “This recording of the final set at the Warfield Theatre brings to full circle the amazing advent of The Mahavishnu Orchestra In 1971, and its renaissance this night in San Francisco.” mused the boundary-shattering guitarist John McLaughlin.  This album is a jazz lover’s dream, with the combination of McLaughlin and his band The 4th Dimension and one of his favorite musicians, Jimmy Herring and his band The Invisible Whip, recreating the music written nearly 40 years ago.  The members of both bands have an almost psychic connection as they bring these songs to life, creating a masterpiece of jazz fusion that should be listened to over and over again.  Sit back and enjoy this one, because it doesn’t get any better than this.

Recommendation:  If you love great music, then this is the album for you.  Rush out and Get this one for your collection.

Artist NameGABI

Album NameEmpty Me

Label:  Double Double Whammy

Genre:  Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Ahhh; 2.  Sleep; 3.  Until the End; 4.  Wild Sunflowers; 5.  Whole With  You; 6.  Let’s not Exist; 7.  Boom Boom Kid; 8.  Breath; 9.  Naked; 10.  :::: (flute); 11.  Stranded in Heathrow; 12.  Falling for a Stranger; 13.  Holy

Publicist:  Worldwide Friendly Society

Review:  Although this is a 13-track album, the publicist only provided three of the tracks for review.  The first of those, “Sleep,” reveals a dreamy ethereal sound reminiscent of Enya, making this album the perfect soundtrack for introspection and relaxation.  We wish we could have reviewed the entire album, but the three tracks provided give us a pretty good idea of the quality of the rest of the album.

Recommendation:  Definitely give this one a spin.

Artist NameRude Audio

Album Name Rude Redux

Label:  Zirkus Records

Genre:  Electronic

Track Listing:  1.  To the Sun; 2.  To the Half Moon; 3.  Rumble on Arab St; 4.  Pipeline Screaming; 5.  To the Half Moon (Rich Lane remix)

Review:  Rude Audio is a London-based electronic collective creating a scene in the dance clubs of south and east London.  Their music mixes dub and house into a living sound that permeates the room, enticing the listener to get up and dance.  They also include a remix of “To the Half Moon” by Rich Lane, one of the best of the underground producers in the UK electronic music scene.

Recommendation:  If you love to dance, then this one belongs in your collection.

Publicist:  Right Angle PR

Review:  Jane Ellen Bryant has the voice of an angel – strong, passionate and full of life.  She gives life to each of this five amazing tracks, announcing to the world that she has definitely arrived.  She has been compared to the likes of Sheryl Crow and Sara Bareilles, and is truly worthy of that comparison.  Like them, Bryant has a easily distinguishable sound and style, and would be a great addition to radio.  Her lead single, “Attention” is also worthy of placement consideration, and would be a great addition to any music supervisor’s catalog of “Go-To” songs.  We really like the country-tinged sound and the harmonies on “Too Smooth.”  The bottom line is we love all five songs and just wish there were at least five more, as we can’t get enough of this breathtaking artist.

Recommendation:  This one belongs on your radar.  Run out and Get it now.

Artist NameInnes Wilson

Album NameSeaview

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  From Now to Forever; 2.  Rough Falls; 3.  Pelee Beach; 4.  The Ballad of Earl Rowe

Publicist:  Auteur Research

Review:  After a six year hiatus, Innes Wilson has returned to making passionate music that speaks to your heart.  His words cut deep while the simple accompaniment is perfectly suited to highlight his vocals and his lyrics.  His EP has only four tracks, and that is simply not enough, as his music is both familiar yet fresh.  We look forward to hearing more from this artist, and only hope we won’t have to wait another six years.

Recommendation:  Definitely give this one a spin.

Review:  Eric McFadden is a guitar virtuoso, having previously toured with the likes of George Clinton (Parliament) and Eric Burdon (The Animals).  On his latest solo effort, he shows off his amazing chops, including flamenco on the tasty instrumental track that closes the album, with one stunning guitar solo after another.  His rough and gravelly vocals are the perfect complement to his amazing guitar licks, and place him among the elite of classic rock/blues artists.  “While you was Gone” also shows the influence of working with Burdon and The Animals.  Best tracks include “Love Come Rescue Me,” “The Girl has Changed,” “Skeleton Key,” the bluesy goodness of “I Never Listened too Good,” “So Hard to Leave,” “Fool Your Heart,” and the balls to the wall rocker, “Don’t you Want to Live.”

Get it or forget it – Frank Bey, Delta Moon, Matthew Perryman Jones, Great Aunt, PILES

The Brewers are now just two wins away from the World Series, and winter is definitely here.  Let’s warm up the climate with five more amazing artists.

Artist Name Frank Bey

Album NameBack in Business

Label: Nola Blue Records

Genre:  Blues

Track Listing:  1.  Back in Business; 2.  Gun Toting Preacher; 3.  Take it Back to Georgia; 4.  Cookie Jar; 5.  The Half of It; 6.  Where you Been so Long; 7.  Better Look Out; 8.  Ain’t no Reason; 9.  Blame Mother Nature; 10.  Give it to get It; 11.  Yesterday’s Dreams

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  This album celebrates the return of Frank Bey, one of the pioneers in blues, as well as providing a soundtrack for his recently released documentary When You Ask Me How I Feel:  The Life and Music of Frank Bey.  Bey announces his return in the traditional blues title track, and then proceeds to act like he never left, delivering a tasty collection of blues songs that will tickle your ears and get you in the groove.  The horns and organ on “Gun Toting Preacher,” as well as those well-written lyrics and gravelly strong voice of Bey bring back memories of the contributions of black musicians over the years.  His form of the blues incorporates everything we love about traditional blues with a healthy dose of soul and R&B thrown in for good measure.  It is so good to hear artists like Bey and Buddy Guy and to know that they are still alive and kicking and bringing us more of the music that make then icons in the blues genre.  Hats off to multi-Grammy winning producer Tom Hambridge for his amazing work on this album.

Recommendation:  Get up and Get this one.  It is a must for your blues collection.

Artist Name Delta Moon

Album NameBabylon is Falling

Label:  Jumping Jack Records

Genre:  Swamp Rock/Blues

Track Listing:  1.  Long way to Go; 2.  Babylon is Falling; 3.  One More Heartache; 4.  Might Take a Lifetime; 5.  Skinny Woman; 6.  Louisiana Rain; 7.  Little Pink Pistol; 8.  Nobody’s Fault but Mine; 9.  Somebody in my Home; 10.  One Mountain at a Time; 11.  Christmas Time in New Orleans

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  Recently selected as the Best Blues Band in Atlanta, Delta Moon leaves not doubt that it is indeed the best with the release of its tenth studio album, Babylon is Falling.  The album combines the blues with the rocking sound of Swamp Rock to create a masterpiece of funk and jive.  But they are not just a great blues band – they also provide meaty lyrics with a strong message that needs to be heard, and we are determined to help them reach their audience.  This is an album that will quickly earn its place in your blues/southern roots collection, and is a true must-have.

Recommendation:  Run out and Get this one, and put it on repeat.

Artist NameMatthew Perryman Jones

Album NameThe Waking Hours

Label:  Tone Tree Records

Genre:  Indie Pop/Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Happy; 2.  Lovers in Another Life; 3.  Careless Man (ft Young Summer); 4.  Anything Goes; 5.  The Waking Hours; 6.  Coming Back to Me; 7.  Half Hearted Love; 8.  Carousel (ft Fleurie); 9.  Take it With Me

Publicist:  The Syndicate

Review:  Matthew Perryman Jones is the consummate singer-songwriter, injecting his indie pop/rock sound with dynamic lyrics delivered with the swagger of Bono, resulting in a very radio-friendly style that begs for heavy rotation.  Every song is a potential Top 40 hit, with positive and upbeat songs that speak of so many universal truths.  The songs are equally perfect for placements in commercial, television and film, and would be a great addition to any music supervisor’s catalog of great songs.

Recommendation:  This one is a definite Get.

Artist NameGreat Aunt

Album NameA Mess That I Left

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Americana/Folk

Track Listing:  1.  Refrain; 2.  Head Up; 3.  We Need to Start Again; 4.  Diggin’ Holes; 5.  Part I (They Came); 6.  Tell me When It’s Over; 7.  Oh, Cruel World

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  Melbourne-based duo Great Aunt gives us folk-based Americana music tinged with shades of bluegrass and gospel.  For an Australian band, they have a great handle on the Americana sound and could easily compete with American bands in this genre.  They have a wholesome sound that is very family friendly, and capture the true spirit of this genre with their soulful renditions.  We would love to see them tour the States, and believe they would be quite successful.  This one is worthy of multiple listens.

Recommendation:  Definitely give this one a chance.

Artist Name PILES

Album Name Una Volta

Label:  Aagoo Records/REV. Lab Records

Genre:  Experimental Instrumental

Track Listing:  1.  Drones and Piles; 2.  Decay; 3.  Ulrik; 4.  Mort aux cons; 5.  Kraut and Piles; 6.  Materials in US; 7.  Chambre d’echo; 8.  Marie

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion PR

Review:  Finally, an album for lovers of percussion.  PILES are a French collective that presents drum sounds in an experimental way that highlights the instrument, creating a soundscape that can easily be placed in commercials, film or television.  Although you’ll probably not hear these songs on the radio, they are commercially viable in other ways, and might be a good source for music supervisors to understand dramatic scenes.  Although not for everyone, if you love drum solos, you will probably love this one as well.

Recommendation:  Give this one a spin.
