We’re back with our list of the best music videos as featured in our Monday Mashup column. Like our list of best singles, we are listing them in the order they were featured in our blog.
We made it to the last day of summer and we’ve got some hot tunes to share with you today before the cold days of fall and winter begin.
NEW SINGLES
First up this week is the latest from another sterling act represented by Ue3 Promotions. This time it’s a sister act featuring twins Jana and Jacy Ayers aka Lavendine. They have a sound with perfect harmonies like another great sister act Karmina, with the driving beat of Evanescence. We love it and can’t wait to hear what’s coming next. This song takes Christian music to a new level and deserves serious airplay on stations like KLOVE. Check out the newly remixed “Rapture.”
We switch things up with the latest acoustic Americana of Rob Williams, who brings us his song, “Nameless.” We love the down home sound of his music, and think he has a bright future with his modern day Dylan-esque sound.
Continuing on in the Americana vein is the latest from Blue Élan Records‘ sweethearts Mustangs of the West, featuring the stirring vocals of Suzanna Spring and the soulful mournings of Aubrey Richmond‘s violin. Dig deep and enjoy this perfect cover of Chris Cornell’s “I am the Highway.”
Moving on to a more R&B sound, here’s “Love Again” from the uber talented Deanna Devore. This song soars to new heights and gives us all hope that love will prevail.
Our final single this week is a portrait of perfection with a sound that reminds us of The Beatles early work. The artist is JJ Draper and the song is “Part of a Piece of This.” We think he’s got something – what say you?
NEW MUSIC VIDEOS
Our first video this week is a loving tribute on the 50th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix‘s death by blues legend Diana Rein. Check out her amazing cover of “Voodoo Child.”
Speaking of great musicians who have passed on, the latest from BLAZAR has a definite Prince feel and is a powerful lyric video. Check out “Precious.”
Our third video is a light-hearted tribute to those “Sky Dancers” we see everywhere. Join the incredibly talented and uber comedic Scout Durwood on her latest fun video. If this one doesn’t bring a smile to your face, then you’re taking life far too seriously.
Next up is the latest from Brooke Moriber, and we think it’s her best one yet. She encourages us to not give up with “Better Days,” and we could not be more hopeful.
We close out this edition of Monday Mashup with the new video from up and coming Americana artist Nikki O’Neill. She says that “You’re the Only One That Gets Me,” but we think everyone will want to get more from this amazing performer.
We had a wonderful weekend. On Friday we reviewed Doctor Nympho vs. The Sex Zombies and had a fantastic after-show hang with Alli Miller and Michael Shaw Fisher. On Saturday, we headed down to the Hotel Cafe, where we enjoyed both Willie Wisely (with our friends Dan Kalisher and Erik Kertes in his band) and Jesse Macht and his band. We were also happy to run into our friends Eric and Eliza Roberts, and have a chance to catch up. On Sunday we got about halfway through our tech rehearsal for my solo show, Livin’ the Dream (a journalistic journey) for the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Preview night is June 7, with additional performances on June 16, 20, 23 and 28. We hope to see you at one of our performances.
NEW SINGLES
We have an extra treat for you this week, as this one fell through the cracks when it was first submitted. It’s a little bit blues, a little bit zydeco and a whole lot of fun. Will Jacobs is an American living in Berlin who is sharing the power of the blues with Europe. His single is a tribute to his adopted hometown of Berlin, and is called “Berlin Bounce.” Check it out – we bet you’ll be cutting a rug in no time flat.
Our first single comes from the band that made us fall in love with “Friends.” The Rembrandts are back and getting ready to release their new album on Blue Élan Records. Check out “Broken Toy.” It perfectly reminds us of why we say “I’ll be There for You.”
Next up is a truly rocking song from a British band. Their latest if called “Lita’s Place,” and it highlights what this band does well – entertain. Check out Exiled – we think they’re going to be around for a while.
Next up is a song that is beautiful in its simplicity, stripped down to its purest form and perfectly performed by New West. Here’s the latest single “Those Eyes.”
Single number four is a definite keeper from Goodside that is fresh but still oddly familiar. It’s called “I’ve Been Feeling Something Lately,” and has a smooth sweet sound that is perfect for summer. Check it out.
Our final single this week is from West Coast Weekend, and their funky retro song, “Heart Attack.” This one has the feel of a Maroon 5 smash and could be a huge hit on radio. Give it up for the next amazing pop superstars.
NEW MUSIC VIDEOS
First up is the remarkable and soulful sound of Kensington Moore. We introduced this song to you in March as part of our Ten Great Singles, but it really comes home on the music video. This song really got to us, and we think it could be a major smash. Check out “I Don’t Like you Anymore.”
It’s amazing how a beautiful female voice can change everything. Take for example the music of Ignescent a driving hard-rock band with incredibly sharp edges. Add the voice of lead singer Jennifer Benson, and the fullness of the band is brought forth, much like what Amy Lee does for Evanescence. Check out the lyric video for “Into the Night” – it will have you banging your head in nothing flat.
Our third video is for all you lovers of 80s/90s rock bands. The master of guitar has returned and he’s better than ever. Slash is now joined by Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators and they’re on a mission to save rock and roll. Check out Exhibit 1, ‘Boulevard of Broken Hearts.” Behold, the king returns.
Next up is a band that is heading for Los Angeles, and will be playing here at the Bootleg Theater on May 19. They pack a powerful punch and remind us of back when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were huge. They call themselves The Unlikely Candidates, but we think they soon will be your go-to choice for great music. Here’s their video for “Novocaine.”
Our final video this is “Cry Like a Girl,” from one of our long-time favorites, Brooke Moriber. We introduced her to you back in October 2015, and she was a nominee for the LA Music Critic Awards for the second half of 2015. We think she’ll become one of your favorites as well.
One of the best things about writing a blog focusing on indie artists is the opportunity to check out amazing new artists and share them with readers. Thanks to Jen Lyneis of Ue3 Promotions and Rick Eberle, Indie Voice is proud to share and recommend Brooke Moriber as this month’s “Artist Worth Checking Out.”
Born and raised in New York City (Manhattan’s Greenwich Village to be precise), Brooke Moriber is a singer/ songwriter known for her edgy pop tunes. She got her start on Broadway at the tender age of eight when she was cast as young Cosette in Les Miserables. Since then, she has performed in six other Broadway shows, including roles as Nadine in The Wild Party, Iola Stover in Parade and Lily in James Joyce’s The Dead, as well as guest starring roles on television and in the movies, including Law and Order: CI, Swift Justice, A Town’s Revenge, Off-Track Betty, Descent, and As The World Turns. She also appeared on stage in Follies on Broadway and The Threepenny Opera, the latter with Cyndi Lauper and Alan Cumming.
In addition, she also premiered Randy Newman’s “Stupid Little Songs” in Seattle, portraying Randy’s first wife in The Education Of Randy Newman. Moriber has been a featured performer on the Tony awards three times and recently performed in a tribute to Marvin Hamlisch at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park .
Not only can she act and sing show tunes, but she has her own style of pop music that is a cross between Amy Lee of Evanescence and Katy Perry. The Associated Press credited her with having a “clarion voice” with an “immense vocal range.”
Moriber had her first material licensed to Nickelodeon when she was only 15. Since then her songs have been featured on soundtracks for film and theater. With her band, she has performed at such New York City venues as Pianos, The Cutting Room, The Knitting Factory and the Red Lion. More recently, her performance at Revolution Music Hall was filmed for Verizon Fios’ Channel 1 where she was chosen as one of the artists to be featured on Rick’s Rising Stars.
Moriber released her debut EP Fire in August 2015, and has begun performing outside of New York City to support the release. Last week she visited the Golden State to perform at Los Angeles venues Genghis Cohen and Room 5, where her shows were met with resounding success.
