Monday mashup 2021 (vol 2)

Hope you survived the NFL’s first six game wild card weekend.  It was an interesting one, with plenty of football action as well as the arrival of Hawaii 5-0 on the Ion television network.  Regardless of how you spent your weekend, it’s time now for another week of great indie music and the unveiling of this week’s Monday Mashup.

NEW SINGLES

We get this week off to a good start with the release of “Hey Beautiful” from intriguing artist Black MP Well.  We love the reggae feel of this one and think you will too.  It also has a great message that everyone is beautiful, regardless of how they look on the outside.

Next up is a sweet and smooth tune from the incomparable Toby Lightman.  This time around she talks about the “Ebb and Flow” of life, and provides the perfect soundtrack for a new week.

Our third single comes from British husband and wife duo Toby & Pip.  We love the simplified sound of their harmonies and are inspired by the message of truth and hope in their single “New Year.”

Next up is an incredible single from Las Vegas-based singer Sabriel.  Her dreamy groove and sexy lyrics will entice you to check out her entire library.  Give a listen to “Love Again.”

Our final single this week has a dynamic 80’s vibe that carries its message of hope and friendship.  We are proud to present Sleepwoka with his latest creation, “Together We Are.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Today was the 25th anniversary of the start of Life.Church.  To celebrate this monumental occasion, their worship team has released a stunning lyric video for their song, “As You Are.”  This song shares the love and vision of this church, and shares the hope and promise of being around people that truly accept you.  Congratulations and here’s to the next 25 years.

Next up is the latest from LA Music Critic Award-winning singer-songwriter Dree Mon.  We simply love the sentiments expressed and the beat keeps drawing us out to the dance floor.  Enjoy the amazing visuals for “Love me at my Best.”

We haven’t featured any hard rock in a bit, but we found the perfect vehicle in the form of alternative metal band HURANOVA from Italy.  Check out this video for their song, “Need,” and pay homage to the next great female lead vocalist.

Our fourth video is a powerful summary of the events of 2020, coupled with hope for the future.  Check out Jeff Coffey‘s stunning video for “Someday.”  If the voice sounds familiar, that’s because he used to sing for one of our favorite bands, Chicago.

We close out this week with an animated lyric video of the debut single by Brady Lee, complete with the perfect amount of Jimmy Buffett/Luke Bryan swagger.  He says “I Can do This All Day,” and we hope he can.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 30

Well, it’s official – we are now residents of Midwest City, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City.  We move into our new apartment tomorrow, although most of our stuff is still in storage in Missoula, Montana, where it will stay until the spring when the snow leaves and it is safe to move it.  Until then, we will get by on borrowed items and cheap substitutes, but we have the essentials we need.  Hopefully, our work schedules will become more firm and we will be able to schedule time to get back to regular posts here on Indie Voice Blog.  We ask for your patience until we are truly “back to normal.”

Last week we attended the Andy Grammer concert, and will be posting our review tomorrow.  In the meantime, here are five new singles and music videos from some amazing indie artists.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week will drop tomorrow, but we are giving you a sneak preview of it today.  We love the dreamy sound of Doter Sweetly, who were previously known as Grandpa Grew Trees.  We reviewed their last album, and are pleased to share the new sound of the band contained in their latest single, “Baby Boy.”  Let us know what you think.

Next up is a beautiful cover of The Rolling Stones‘ classic song, “As Tears go By” from LA Music Critic Award winners and Blue Élan Records artists Mustangs of the West.  This song has never sounded better.

Single number three comes from down under and features the folk sound of Eric Prod.  The single is called “From me to you (part 2),” and we love it.  This one would do well in our Americana market.

Next up is A Choir of Ghosts from Scandinavia with an idyllic folk sound that would do quite well in the American folk/Americana scene.  Check out “An Ounce of Gold” and let us know what you think.

Our final single is from BINX, one of the most unique indie artists in LA.  Her latest is called “Milk,” and we need to hear this sweet song on Top 40 radio.  This one is deserves repeated listens.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first music video is a simply beautiful arrangement by one of our favorite LA indie artists who is usually known more for her rocking sound than as a mellow songwriter.  We love the creative growth she shows in her latest project, “Return Home,” and think you will likewise fall in love with Abby Posner.

Our next video is short and sweet and gives us just a taste of the brilliance that is Jay Katana.  His concept for “Letter From Child” has has salivating over the release of his next project.  Enjoy this dark sweet tidbit.

Video number three is from the dreamy Kat Cunning and is equally as cinematic and dramatic as her soaring vocals.  We think this one would be great on the radio and would be perfect for placement in movies and television.  Check out “For the Love.”

Video number four is from another LA Music Critic Award winner, Dree Mon, and is as equally dance-compelling as her last two videos.  Get up and dance to the sound of “When it Goes Down.”  We guarantee you won’t be able to sit down for this one.

Our final video this week is an animated one from People Club for their song, “Kil Scott.”  This one is a keeper, and we suggest you put it on repeat.

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 38

It was a terrible weekend for our favorite teams, as Milwaukee lost in Game 7, Wake Forest gave up a 10 point lead and lost to Florida State, and the Dolphins gave the Lions 10 points for every touchdown they scored, losing 32-21.  At least we have some new music to share with you that might take the edge off, so sit back and let’s get grooving.

HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL 2019 NEWS

Make your plans now to attend the debut of “Livin’ the Dream,” the behind-the-scenes solo show about the life and career of the LA Music Critic, one of many great shows to choose from at HFF19.

In addition, they are offering a Creative Workshop Series. This year it will be held on November 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature a full day of sessions on writing, sharing and critiquing ,as well as lots of panels.  The sessions are PWYC with a suggested ticket price of $20.  You can get more information about the offerings as well as reserve a seat here.

NEW SINGLES

They say the third time is a charm, so let’s hope so.  We have been trying to share this amazing single with you for a while, but so many good things have been happening with it that it has not been available.  We can now finally share “Haunt’d” by the up and coming superstar Kenna, a Nashville singer-songwriter with a brilliant future.  We think you’ll love this one.

We have a couple of songs we are happy to premiere.  First up is “PTSD,” from the sweet sound of Stalking Gia.  This one has an infectious dance groove supporting incredible vocals and well-written lyrics, for a totally different take on the subject.  This one could easily become a Top 40 hit.

The second of our premieres is from Los Angeles-based rock band Uniform Standard, who bring us “Filthy Mouth.”  This one will definitely get your week rocking, with lots of double entendre and the soaring vocals of lead singer Dana Andrews, who was one of the contestants on Rockstar: Supernova.

Our fourth single is from Boise, Idaho based band Messimer.  We like their retro sound and think you will like it too.  Here’s “I Know I Should.”

https://soundcloud.com/messimer/i-know-i-should

Our final single this week is from an artist we believe is on the cusp of greatness.  Check out “Let it Out” by the amazing R&B/pop vocalist Dominque Tey.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

First up this week is the amazing sound of Big Lonely with their tune “Ticket.”  We absolutely love the sound of this tune, and the video will definitely get you ready for Halloween.

Our next video is the latest from Sexy Dex and The Fresh, who we have previously featured.  Check out the vibe of “!Wait!”

Our third video will grab you, with the smoky voice of Ashley Iona, which just doesn’t seem to fit her image.  We love the uniqueness of her sound, and are really digging her new track, “Leaving.”

Next up is the video interpretation of Julie-Anne‘s song, “Met by Grace.”  This one is a beautiful anthem of hope, with a stellar violin track.  Please let us know what you think about this one.

Our final music video this week is the latest from the ever-evolving music genius Dree Mon.  Get up and Dance with her amazing song, “Dance Like I Want To.”

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 15

If it wasn’t a holiday, today would be tax day, but thanks to the holiday, you still have until midnight tomorrow to file your taxes.  Got ours done last month, so we’re just waiting for the refund.  Let’s get this week started with five new singles and music videos, and here we go.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single today comes from Europe, and features Norbert Gobor of Hungary and Vivian Franken from The Netherlands,  combining their talents as Dream Map.  Their first single, “Infinity,” is incredible, with majestic soundscapes and vocals that soar high above the music.  We can think of no better song to kick this off with week.

Our next single comes from a marriage between an American and a Scandinavian, resulting in Flora Cash.  Their single, “18 Dollars,” talks about the end of a relationship, and is relatable to just about everyone.

Our third track is a rocking number from Espanola for their tune, “Outside Saskatoon.”  The song has obviously been influenced by classic rock bands from the 70’s, and we simply love it.  Let us know what you think.

https://soundcloud.com/agoldrules/outside-saskatoon/

Next up is Harts, an artist we featured last month.  His latest single is “21&19,” and it’s an upbeat hip-hop/funk tune that is fun and reminiscent of the late great Al Green.

Our final single today is from alt-rock artist AlphaCub.  It is called “James Dean,” and it is an awesome homage to the great actor.  Enjoy this one with us.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video is from Twang and Round.  This band has some powerful vocals, with the female side sounding a lot like Janis Joplin.  Check out “Devil to Pay,” and let it rock your Monday.

Our next video comes from LA phenom Dree Mon, who continues to burn up the indie music scene with her second single this year, “No Chill.”  If this one doesn’t get you moving and grooving, then you are beyond hope.  This one is a definite contender for best video of 2018.

Let’s slow things down with this intriguing video from Sean McMahon for “Show me the Way.”  It is a tight song with amazing cinematography, and we think you’ll dig it as much as we do.

Check out our fourth video from the absolutely gorgeous alt-soul group Corina Corina.  Here is their homage to those service industry workers at the local “Bar$.”  This one is hot.

Last but not least this week is a video from Theda.  This slow jam will give you something to think about as we move through this week.  Enjoy “Out of Sight Out of Mind.”
