Monday mashup 2019: vol. 39

It’s the eve of Christmas Eve and I just returned from a long day of work at Pizza Hut, with just enough energy left to post this week’s Monday Mashup.  We hope these five new singles and five new music videos will give you what you need to make it to Christmas.  Enjoy the time with family and friends.

NEW SINGLES

First up is a refreshing cover of the classic Christmas song, “Silent Night,” from the rising superstar vocalist Alexa Villa.  We love her pop/rock take on the song, and think this one will bear hearing quite a few times.

https://open.spotify.com/album/2iefiL8G1rIvXt0o50UtE9?si=Ovemq-XMTRqwuOhtq4Xsag

Next up is another incredible Christmas cover, this time Bing Crosby‘s “White Christmas,” provided by the ever wonderful sound of Matt LeGrand.  May all your dreams come true.

Let’s take an instrumental interlude and share the inspiring piano licks of Sheldon Pickering‘s “Song of Thanks.”  Be thankful for family and friends and that you have a job.  I know I am.

This next song is from an artist we just recently met last June.  The single, “Lonely Time of Year,” is produced by our dear friend Shane Alexander, and we can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.  Say hello to Arielle Silver – we think you’ll be hearing a lot from her in the future.

Our final single this week is an upbeat number from Harris Breyfogle.  We love the funky sound of “Angela,” and can’t wait to hear more.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video this week features the powerful vocals of Christina LaRocca, that combine the sound of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.  This girl can wail, and we will be right there listening to “Breathe” until her next track drops.

Next up is the truly inspiring sound of boerd featuring Stella Explorer.  We think this one will give you plenty to celebrate and is a live session for their song “Before we Drown.”  Enjoy!

Video number three features the stellar vocals of singer-songwriter Mattie Leon, who reminds us of life’s “Silver Line.”  Let the truth of the words soak in, especially at this time of year.

Next up is the rocking sound of Pointless, who are anything but.  Their song is called “Half Empty,” but it definitely does not leave us with that impression.  We can’t wait to hear more from them.

We close out this week with the killa sound of Monsta X and their latest song, “Middle of the Night.”  Have a wonderful Christmas week and we’ll see you next week for our final Monday Mashup of 2019.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 38

Only nine days away from our first Christmas in Oklahoma, and the weather is reminding us that it’s winter.  Still waiting to see if we’ll get anything white, but in the meantime, it’s bitterly cold.  Seems like the perfect time to warm up with some great new music and videos, so let’s get started.

NEW SINGLES

First up is a beautiful collaboration between 23rd Hour and Caley Rose, who we recently introduced you to.  This one is called “Get me Home for the Holidays,” and it is making us wish that Christmas was tomorrow instead of next Wednesday.  Hope it lifts your holiday spirits as well.

Next up is the latest from one of our favorite LA songbirds, the one and only Kris Angelis.  This time it’s the time track to her upcoming EP, “That Siren, Hope.”  We think it’s the best she’s ever recorded, and would love to know what you think.

Single number three spotlights another bright young songwriter named Katarina Cain, and is entitled “Promised Land.”  We think she’s headed there, as evidenced by her excellent showing on Season 15 of The Voice, and we are proud to tag along.  This one will definitely get your week going strong.

https://soundcloud.com/user-914489524/promised-land/s-U6D1l

Next up is the latest from the amazing voice of Sofia Evangelina.  This one is called “Smile,” and it has us grinning from ear to ear.  This one is going on perpetual repeat.

We close out this week’s new singles with the latest from the uber-talented Kensington Moore.  She gets her revenge in the form of “Karma,” and we’re glad we’re not on her bad side.  Enjoy this one.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Well, since the ladies were featured in the Singles category, we’ll give the guys their due and feature them in the Music Video category.  First up is Feudale‘s lyric video for their song “Teenager.”  We bet this one will bring back some memories.

Next up is another lyric video, this time from the hard-rocking metal band Runescarred.  This one is called “Mammoth,” and it’s huge.  Go ahead and head bang to your heart’s content with this one.

Our third video is called “A Thousand Years Away,” and we’re glad we don’t have to wait that long for the rest of the album to be released.  We love the melodic rock sound of Atlanta rockers The Endangered Species, and will definitely keep our eyes on these lads.

Next is the latest video from the incredible rock band Violates/Violets.  This one is called “Soft Core,” and it’s get everything you want in your rock music video.  Enjoy this holiday treat.

We close out this week with a stimulating animated video that captures Johnny Stranger‘s tribute to that holiday classic The Nutcracker Suite.  Here is “Marche.”

Hard to believe that December has arrived and 2019 is coming to a close.  In the weeks ahead we will be releasing our lists of the best singles, videos and albums of the year, as well as sharing some new holiday classics.  But before we do that, here’s our first Monday Mashup of the month.

CALIFORNIA COUNTRY SHOW RADIO PODCAST

In the “It’s About Time” category, the California Country Show Radio Podcast has announced that it will begin a series entitled “Trailblazers – Women in Country Music.”   The podcast will feature in-depth interviews with the women who set the stage for the future of country music, and we for one can’t wait to check it out.  Here’s the schedule:

December 2nd:  Dixie Jade  https://www.dixiejade.com/

December 9th:  Julia Hatfield  https://www.juliahatfield.com/

December 16th:  Honey County  http://www.honeycounty.com/

December 23rd:  Darci Carlson  https://www.facebook.com/darcicarlsonmusic/

December 30th:  Sheyna Gee  http://www.sheynagee.com/

For more info, check out their website.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single comes from Julia Jonas, who we think has the potential to truly clear the “Air.”  We are in love with her amazing voice and the words of the song are so uplifting.

Our next single is a true rocker from Nuns of the Tundra.  Check out “Sign in Blood.”

We introduced you to Australia’s The Skelton Collective last January, and they’re back with a new single, “Coffee & Hope.”  We are glad to hear more from this amazing group.  Put this one on repeat.

Our fourth single comes from Lostboycrow, and is full of retro influences.  Check out “Moonlight,” and get up and dance.

Our final single this week is from Unbroken Expanse and simply titled “Go.”  We highly recommend you enjoy this one and add them to your list of future superstars.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first music video this month is from the brilliant band Papyllon, who we recently introduced to you.  Here is the lyric video for their latest, “All the Time,” and we can see this song becoming a huge hit.

Next up is an interesting video from California’s Dankrupt, who seem to be “Drowning” in great musical ideas.  We love their sound and think  you will too.

Need an escape this holiday season from all the stress of shopping?  We highly recommend you put on the latest video from Eric Tingstad and find your “Solace.”

Next up is a very special video of the song Erick Macek wrote for his wife for their wedding day.  Check out the simple beauty of “Your Hand.”  See if it doesn’t spark you to be more romantic.

We close out the week with this beautiful original Christmas song by Christian artist Plumb.  She tells us “It’s Christmastime.”  Enjoy the season.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 35

We’ve reached our final Monday Mashup of November, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  Please take time this year to be thankful for family and friends, and for our military who fought for our freedom to celebrate.  Enjoy these new singles and music videos and we’ll be back soon with our Ten Great Singles and Ten Amazing Videos released in the month of November.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week comes from Alexandria Maillot.  This one has a great alternative rock vibe with powerful lyrics.  Check out “Someone to Keep you Warm.”

Our next single combines the sound of two of our favorites – Whitney Houston and Patti Labelle – to form a sweet and smooth jam called “Out of my ooo.”  We simply love the sound of Jessica Wilde and can’t wait to see what comes next.

We introduced you to the sweet and sensual sound of Emmrose last month, and she’s back with an even better song this month.  Here’s “Hopeless Romantics” for your consideration.  We think this artist definitely has “the goods.”

Single number four has a harder edge and features the dynamic London duo called Revolvers.  According to the title of their single, we are living in “Confusing Times,” and we couldn’t agree more.

Our final single, “She” comes from Richmond, Virginia band She.   Their sound is almost experimental rock but with a touch of prog, and we like it.  We think you will too.

https://soundcloud.com/user-121828030/she

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video features the powerful and strong vocals of Rookes on her song, “Salvage.”  This is by far one of the best songs we have heard this year.  What do you think?

Back in the late 80s, most of us loved a band called the Spin Doctors, composed of Chris Barron and Eric Schenkman.  When the band broke up, Barron began pursuing an indie career as a singer-songwriter, while Schenkman continue his mastery of the guitar.  Well, Schenkman is back with his latest song, “Agent Orange Blues,” and we are glad he is.  It’s a total departure from the Spin Doctors.  Let us know what you think.

Video number three comes from Scotland’s gem, Baby Taylah, and is a visually stunning video that will appeal to anyone who loved and misses Game of Thrones.  Check out “Reclaim.”

We last featured Matt LeGrand back in September.  He returns with Mexican rapper Mestiza and delivers the smooth jam “I’ve Been Watching You.”  This one is guaranteed to get you in the mood.

We close out this edition of Monday Mashup with a beautiful cover video from Christafari of the Christian song “Way Maker,” which features the soulful reggae sound of Avion Blackman.  We love the reggae groove and the lyrics.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 34

We’re now in the second half of November and headed towards Thanksgiving.  We’ve got some great new singles and videos for you today, and hope that they make you thankful for indie music.  Enjoy these treats.

NEW SINGLES

We kick things off this week with the latest from another of our favorite LA indie artists, Kris Angelis, a multiple winner of the LA Music Critic Award.  This time around she confesses “I Hope I Never Fall in Love Again,” although her fans have truly fallen for her.  Listen to the words of this song, and let her know how much you care for her craft.

Next up is Brooklyn pop star Laney Lynx, who confronts her friend’s “Bad Attitude.”  Although the sound is upbeat, make sure you pay attention to the lyrics.  This one is powerful.

Our next single comes from indie alternative pop duo Kar.  They share the frustrations of being “On Our Own.”  We’re sure everybody can relate.

Single number four is a beautiful song from UK pop songstress Tropico Don, who describes the process of seeking help from your friends as being her “Orion’s Belt.”  We love it and can’t wait to hear more.

Our final single this week is from another fabulous Blue Élan Records artist, Amy Wilcox.  Hear her country spin on the seminal Christmas carol, “Silent Night.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

The boy band vibe is strong in the latest video from Little Hurt.  They remind us that “It’s OK not to be OK.”  We strongly recommend this video for the shear fun of it, but also encourage you to listen to the lyrics, and take them to heart.  They have dedicated this video to support the work of Hope for the Day, a group that is helping to prevent suicides.

Next is the incredibly creative video from The Envips about the power of pop culture to change our image of success.  Check out “Last Star,” and relive the life and struggles of Marilyn Monroe.

Our third video is pure dance pop joy from the creative mind of LX.  She talks about people who keep putting the “Blame on Me.”  We guarantee this one will get you pumped up.

Next up is the soulful R&B goodness of Jacob Seeger, who wants to know if you’re “Down.”  This song is a cinematic masterpiece, and we love the sweet sentiments reflected in his lyrics.

We close out this edition of Monday Mashup with the latest lyric video from LA Music Critic Award-winning country trio, Southern Halo.  This one is called “Missing Mississippi,” and it is wonderfully done as a series of Polaroids.  Never give up following your dreams.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 33 (rev.)

Happy Veterans Day to all of those who have served and provided the freedoms we enjoy.  I am proud to be counted among you.  Take advantage of all the free food available today – you’ve earned it.  In the meantime, we’ll share some new singles and music videos, including the return of our Pop Princess, Katie Costello.  Let’s get going.

NEW SINGLES

We are overjoyed to share the latest from multi-LA Music Critic Award winner and Pop Princess Katie Costello.  It’s the first new music from her since December 2017, and we could not be more ecstatic.  Check out “Polaroid” and welcome her back with open arms and ears.

Our second single comes from the creative mind of former LA artist Amie Mirello.  Somehow she found time between touring as a back-up singer for Sugarland to form a new band called Boys Club for Girls.  They have released their first single, and it is smokin’ hot.  Check out “The Weatherman.”

We continue sharing amazing new holiday songs from Blue Élan Records‘ artists, including  this stunning cover of the classic “A Marshmallow World” from the one and only Scout Durwood.  We think this one will quickly become one of your favorites.

If you love stunning harmonies, we have a treat for you from another Blue Élan Records artist, Mustangs of the West.  Check out their take on the song, “2000 Miles.”  We think it’s one of the most beautiful holiday songs we have ever heard.

Our final single this week is especially poignant and special to me, as I lost my father two years ago this Thanksgiving.  He is tall. from Denmark gives a stirring tribute to his father in his single “Dad.” and we are happy to share this one with you.  Make sure you have some tissues close by.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video this week is from the creative mind of Jay Katana, who has created a new band called Violates/Violets.  Here is their first single, “Retake (Believe).”  We think they definitely have something special and can’t wait to hear more.

Next up is the latest from budding pop queen Maggie Miles.  Check out this fun video shot at a roller skating rink for her song, “Shiver.”  Enjoy!

If you grew up in the 70s, you will enjoy this nostalgic video from Paul Mosley and the Red Meat Orchestra.  Enjoy “The 1970s.”

Our fourth video is from LA quintet The Mowgli’s, who offer sage advice in this fun video for their song, “Fighting With Yourself.”  We can easily see this song becoming an anthem and a radio hit.  What do you think?

We close out this week’s Monday Mashup with this new video from Jack Broadbent, who we introduced last month.  Here is his new tune, “Everytime I Drown.”  Let the words of this song further strengthen your resolve to be a better you.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 32

And so we begin another month with our first Monday Mashup of November 2019.  We have some great new singles and videos for you, and truly hope to get back to reviewing albums soon.  In the meantime, check out these great new sounds.

NEW SINGLES

We kick off this edition with a special thanks to Blue Élan Records, who consistently support indie music and bring us some of the best music available today.  Case in point, The Vegabonds have released their cover of the classic song “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” a song I have loved for nearly 50 years.  This one captures all the power of the lyrics and puts that special spin on it that is the trademark of The Vegabonds.

Next up we have a pair of holiday songs from two more prominent Blue Élan artists, Cindy Alexander and Roan Yellowthorn.   First up is Alexander’s take on the holiday classic, “Do you Hear What I Hear?”

Yellowthorn joins with Car Astor to bring us their version of another holiday classic, “River.”  Hopefully these songs will get you in the holiday mood.

Next up is the Top 40-worthy sound of Midnight Divide, with their song “Say You Believe.”  We think you’ll be hearing these guys on your local radio dial soon.  Their sound reminds us of OneRepublic meets Imagine Dragons.

Our final single this week is from Canadian folk-rock band Union Duke.  We love the laid back and chill sound and think that you will be putting “Atlas of Love” on repeat.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

We are happy to share the debut of the new music video from Maltese Flamingo, “Shivers.”  This one is trippy, but fun.  Enjoy!

Next up is a video from Crystal Bright, an artist we have previously featured on Indie Voice Blog, but haven’t heard from in a while.  This one is powerful, so dig in and listen to “I’ll Hold You.”

Next up is one of our favorite bands that don’t take themselves seriously, namely Ninja Sex Party.  On the first single from their upcoming covers album, they give us their take on the classic Jefferson Starship tune, “We Built This City.”  Sit back and enjoy this version.

We travel across the pond for the rocking groove of Carnival Club‘s latest video, “Lady.”  Let the hair fly and the good times begin.

We close out the week with this fun video from Penny Dreadful, the delightful burlesque alter ego of multi-LA Music Critic Award winner VK Lynne.  Here she does a cover of the Cher classic, “Welcome to Burlesque.”  We think it is the perfect tribute to our friends at Cherry Poppins Productions, and we salute them on the occasion of their seventh anniversary.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 31

Just when we thought things were started to stabilize, the universe laughed at us.  We spent all of last Tuesday moving into our new apartment, but couldn’t get the internet up or finish moving in until late Wednesday.  I’m currently working two part-time jobs, while Chelle just got promoted to shift manager.  I work Tuesdays from 10-4, Wednesday through Saturday from 10 to 9:30, and Sundays from 9:45 to 6:30, with Monday my only day off.  Chelle’s schedule is even crazier and she is working 50-60 hours a week, so we were looking forward to having a relaxing day off today, only to wake up this morning to find that our electricity had been disconnected due to a miscommunication about a deposit.  That forced us to head back over to my brother’s house, where I’m currently sitting and working off the lap top to write today’s column.  No promises but I do hope to also complete the Andy Grammer review today.  In the meantime, here are some new singles and videos on this final Monday in October.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is a hip-hop song about making the best out of the bad times (so appropriate for us right now).  “Another Day in the Life” is from Tha Third i, and we highly recommend you listen to the words.

Next is a beautiful song from Emmrose that is ethereal and eerie but somewhat comforting.  We love the sound of her vocals and the words cut deep.  Give a listen to “Tonight” and let us know what you think.

Our third single is actually a pair and comes from New Zealand transplant and current LA singer-songwriter Eden Iris.  The current single is called “Birthday Baby” and comes with its B side, “Lullaby.”  Her vocals remind us of early Gwen Stefani.  Check them out and feel the Kiwi love.

Single number four is the perfect song for this time of year, although it is actually about abandonment.  We think this song belongs on Top 40 radio, and love the sound of Carvi‘s “Ghosted.”

Our final single this week is from the classic rock sound of Koala Queen.  We definitely agree it’s about “Time” for this band to break out.

MUSIC VIDEOS

We continue in the rocking vein for the latest video from British punk rockers The Kut.  Although the single will not be “officially” released until Halloween, here is the video for “X-ray Eyes.”  We truly dig it.

Next up is a modern-day band that borrows heavily from the 80s groove on their latest, “What About Tonight.”  We think this band deserves national attention and heavy rotation on American radio, as they are busting out in Europe already.  Check out Papyllon.

We think we found our new favorite artist in Rachel Lorin.  Not only is she incredibly beautiful, but she has powerful vocals like early Kelly Clarkson, and a music video that is one of the hottest we have seen.  This one will make you sweat and is perfect for your next workout routine.  Go for the “Gold.”

Video number four has equally powerful vocals from Iris and a visually stimulating video for her song, “Stars.”  All of this great music is making today so much better.

We close out this week with the stunning video for “Heaven’s Gate,” the single version of which we shared with you a couple of weeks ago.  Just in time for Halloween, “drink the Kool Aid” and give another listen to Emily Breeze and watch as the song literally comes to life.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 30

Well, it’s official – we are now residents of Midwest City, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City.  We move into our new apartment tomorrow, although most of our stuff is still in storage in Missoula, Montana, where it will stay until the spring when the snow leaves and it is safe to move it.  Until then, we will get by on borrowed items and cheap substitutes, but we have the essentials we need.  Hopefully, our work schedules will become more firm and we will be able to schedule time to get back to regular posts here on Indie Voice Blog.  We ask for your patience until we are truly “back to normal.”

Last week we attended the Andy Grammer concert, and will be posting our review tomorrow.  In the meantime, here are five new singles and music videos from some amazing indie artists.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week will drop tomorrow, but we are giving you a sneak preview of it today.  We love the dreamy sound of Doter Sweetly, who were previously known as Grandpa Grew Trees.  We reviewed their last album, and are pleased to share the new sound of the band contained in their latest single, “Baby Boy.”  Let us know what you think.

Next up is a beautiful cover of The Rolling Stones‘ classic song, “As Tears go By” from LA Music Critic Award winners and Blue Élan Records artists Mustangs of the West.  This song has never sounded better.

Single number three comes from down under and features the folk sound of Eric Prod.  The single is called “From me to you (part 2),” and we love it.  This one would do well in our Americana market.

Next up is A Choir of Ghosts from Scandinavia with an idyllic folk sound that would do quite well in the American folk/Americana scene.  Check out “An Ounce of Gold” and let us know what you think.

Our final single is from BINX, one of the most unique indie artists in LA.  Her latest is called “Milk,” and we need to hear this sweet song on Top 40 radio.  This one is deserves repeated listens.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first music video is a simply beautiful arrangement by one of our favorite LA indie artists who is usually known more for her rocking sound than as a mellow songwriter.  We love the creative growth she shows in her latest project, “Return Home,” and think you will likewise fall in love with Abby Posner.

Our next video is short and sweet and gives us just a taste of the brilliance that is Jay Katana.  His concept for “Letter From Child” has has salivating over the release of his next project.  Enjoy this dark sweet tidbit.

Video number three is from the dreamy Kat Cunning and is equally as cinematic and dramatic as her soaring vocals.  We think this one would be great on the radio and would be perfect for placement in movies and television.  Check out “For the Love.”

Video number four is from another LA Music Critic Award winner, Dree Mon, and is as equally dance-compelling as her last two videos.  Get up and dance to the sound of “When it Goes Down.”  We guarantee you won’t be able to sit down for this one.

Our final video this week is an animated one from People Club for their song, “Kil Scott.”  This one is a keeper, and we suggest you put it on repeat.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 29

Happy Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day!  It’s time for our weekly Monday Mashup and we have some great ones for you today.  Check out these amazing indie tunes.

THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF HEATHER JACKS

Heather Jacks is one of the coolest indie artists I know.  Although she is not a musician, she is an amazing creative artist, photographer, author and supporter of indie music.  She recently invested in “Bubba the Bus,” and is in the process of converting it to her mobile “tiny home.”  Keep up with her adventures by subscribing to her YouTube channel.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is the radio edit of “Heaven’s Gate” from Emily Breeze, who we introduced to you back in August.  Her latest is further proof that this is an artist worth investing in.

Our next single is from another band we previously featured here on Indie Voice Blog back in 2017 (Monday Mashup) and 2018 (Get it or Forget it), The Crowleys.  Here’s their latest offering, “Clarice.”  We’re glad to have you back.

Single number three comes from another IVB favorite artist with an eerie, transcending vibe named Völuspa.  This one is intriguing and haunting and entitled “Live One Life.”

Our next single features the insane harmonies of Transatlantic trio, Raynes on their latest single, “Lemon Drop.”  This one is a potential monster  hit and deserves heavy rotation on American radio.

Our final single this week is the first release from Swiss band Marey.  We love their sound and can’t wait to hear what comes next.  Here’s “Synthetic.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

First up is a quirky lyric video for “High Functioning,” the latest from the amazing Alannah Kavanagh aka Grizzly Coast.  This one will get you going like nothing else.

If you love magic and Americana music, then you will love “In My Time” from Fletcher C Johnson.  This one is just plain fun.

Video number three is a powerful video about human rights from The Oddysy, and features Public Enemy‘s Chuck D on the song “Bang Bang.”  The images are visceral and the message is sorely needed today.

Next up is one of the best videos we have ever seen from Tiffany Young, and she’s provided some great ones.  This one has almost 1 million views, and it was only released on October 10.  It’s called “Run for Your Life,” and we recommend you run to watch it.

Our final video this week comes from multi-LA Music Critic Award winning duo, Lovers & Poets.  We think it just may be their most powerful one yet, and we are ready to head off on a “Sugar High.”
