Monday mashup 2017: Vol. 24

Spent the last few days recuperating from our whirlwind trip to California for the Hollywood Fringe Festival, as well as our first winners showcase for the LA Music Critic Awards.  So happy to be back in Montana and ready to let you know about some of the great things happening in indie music.

HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL COMPLETES BANNER RUN

This year’s Festival, their eighth and biggest one to date, ran June 8 through June 25.  The event, which included 375 shows and more than 2,000 performances, culminating in a magnificent awards show that final night at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre which was attended by more than 800 people.  We gave out our first Larry Cornwall Award for Musical Excellence.  Thanks to Fringe TV, here’s a compilation video of highlights from the awards show.

KELLY McGRATH RELEASES NEW SINGLE

Former Los Angeles and now Nashville based singer-songwriter Kelly McGrath just released her latest single on iTunes on June 30.  Through the first 24 hours, this new song was her most downloaded single on iTunes – way to go indie music!  If you want to grab a copy for yourself, here’s the link.

NEW MUSIC

Megan Flechaus is an amazing artist who is primed to burst onto the indie music scene.  She is currently working on her next album project, and recently released her new single, “What We’ve Got” under the band name FlecHaus.  Let us know what you think.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Kris Angelis recently broke into the Top 10 on iTunes when she released her latest EP Heartbreak is Contagious.  This is her new single from that EP, and we think it rocks.  Let us know what you think.

The Spider Accomplice has made a lot of noise in the past couple of years, garnering six LA Music Critic Awards.  They are well on their way to more kudos with this lyric video for their tune “Atmosphere.”  Forget your Monday blues and get your rock on!

Last but not least this week, check out this video from DJ Polique, which features Jacob Luttrell (indie musician and hit songwriter for Enrique Iglesias, Flo Rida, Sia, Pitbull), as well as Snoop Dog and Follow Your Instinct.  We think it may be the biggest hit of the summer.

Monday mashup 2017: Vol. 22

Happy Monday.  It was a busy week of reviewing, and we still have a few more to do.  We are also busy preparing for the Hollywood Fringe Festival and our winners showcase for the LA Music Critic Awards.  We’re happy to be able to share some news with you and kick off another week.

HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL KICKS OFF PREVIEW WEEK

The 8th Annual Hollywood Fringe Festival kicked off its preview week, and the majority of the previews were sold out.  According to my sources, the first four days of the week have been a huge success.  Not only that, but the Festival received a huge slice of press when the Los Angeles Daily News did a wonderful article on the Fringe.  Can’t wait until the 15th when our Fringe adventure begins.  #HFF17

CRIMSON CALAMITY FIGHTING FOR CHANCE TO OPEN

Our dear friends at Crimson Calamity have come a long way in the past year.  They are part of the 2017 Stadium of Fire competition and have managed to earn a spot in the Top 25.  If they reach the top 10, they will be considered for an opening spot for Little Big Town.  As of this morning, the band is at #11, and the contest ends tomorrow night.  Can you help them make it over the top?   By the way, the video they’re using is super hot.  Check it out when you vote.

NEW MUSIC

Check out “All About Love,” the new single from LA’s transplanted Danish artist Ronny Morris.  It has such a sweet dreamy feel that is perfect for your evening chill time.  What do you think?

https://soundcloud.com/ronnymorrismusic/ronny-morris-all-about-love

MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first new video this week is from Superet.  With the return of Twin Peaks, it seems like the perfect fit.  Let us know what you think.

Los Angeles country sensations Honey County recently debuted their new song “Love Someone” on Radio Disney Country.  Here’s the music video of the song – we love it!

Another of our favorite indie bands, Fort Atlantic, has just released a lyric video for their single, “Just Hold On.”  We love the sound and believe these guys belong on the radio.

Closing out this Monday is “User,” the latest video from six-time winners of the LA Music Critic Awards, The Spider Accomplice.  The band will be performing on June 20 as part of the Winners Showcase on the Hotel Cafe’s Second Stage.  We strongly encourage you to attend.

Monday Mashup 2017: Vol. 20

As we head into the third week of May, so much is happening in our indie music world.  Here are some of the biggest stories.

MILCK SIGNS WITH MAJOR LABEL

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Connie Lim aka MILCK, who came to the world’s attention when her song “Quiet” was performed during the Women’s March back in January, has signed with Atlantic Records.  They are planning to record her anthemic ballad, as well as new music on her first album for them.  Congratulations for keeping the indie spirit alive in the majors.  We wish you well MILCK.

STOP MOTION POETRY LAUNCHES KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

Stop Motion Poetry, a Modesto, California based band of brothers, has launched their Kickstarter campaign to help with the expenses of recording their next album, an EP named Dead Rose.  Click on the Kickstarter link to find out more.

NEW MUSIC

Check out this amazing tune, “The Smoke and the Stars,” from new artist Jason Hawk Harris.  We think he’s definitely got the talent to take it to the limit, and we look forward to whatever he sends to us next.

MUSIC VIDEOS

We are proud to share some of the latest music videos with your from these amazing artists:

“Fill me Up” is one of our favorite cuts from Amilia K Spicer’s new album Wow and Flutter.  We hope you like it as much as we do.

Here’s the latest single from Frank Shiner’s new album, Lonely Town Lonely Street, which we will review tomorrow.  Is this not the perfect chill song for after work relaxation?  This song has been covered by some of the legends in music, and we would be remiss not to include Shiner’s cover in that mix.

If the previous song provided chill relief, then the latest video from LA Music Critic Award winner Rod Melancon will provoke you in a visceral way.  From his forthcoming Southern Gothic album soon to be released by Blue Élan Records, “Different Man” is a powerful visual aid to the story of the man who came home from the war a different man.

Monday mashup 2017: Vol. 19

Welcome to a new week.  Next month at this time we will be in Los Angeles for the final two weeks of the Hollywood Fringe Festival.  We are pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring our first award this year, in honor of our friend Larry Cornwall, who passed away in March from brain cancer.  The Larry Cornwall Award for Musical Excellence will be given to a play that best incorporates music within its context.  We are also happy to announce that the uber-talented Alli Miller and Michael Shaw Fisher will be assisting us in determining the winner of the award.  Both of them are multi-winners at Fringe, and integral parts of their companies, Cherry Poppins Productions and Sacred Fools.  Come join us at the Fringe!

SHANNON HURLEY TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM

Shannon Hurley has launched a pre-sale for her new album, New Day, which will be released on June 30.  We will have a review of the album posted shortly.  In the meantime, check out her website and pre-order the album.  Based on what she has done in the past, we are sure this new album will be equally wonderful.

MUSIC VIDEOS

Our only new video this week comes from the Big Apple.  The New ResistANTS released their video for “Onny Swar” on May 11.  We kinda like this grunge-punk sound and think you will too.

NEW SINGLES

Toronto-based High Signs has released the first single, “A Much Larger Ocean,” from their forthcoming album If So, Then What?  This hard-driving rock song contains some powerful truth.  Let us know what you think.

For all you electronica fans, here’s the latest from Adrian Underhill.  He has asked Toronto-based producer Harrison to remix the song, and we like the results.  Let us know what you think.

Last, but not least, we present 19-year old Kylie Odetta with the first single, “Stress,” from her new EP, Undertow, set to be released on May 19.  We think her vocals are dreamy and look forward to hearing more from this up and coming artist.

Monday mashup 2017: Vol 18

Happy Monday!  Ready for another week of indie music while I seek out gainful employment.  This should be a great week since it starts out by hosting a musician friend who is out and about and passing through Montana.  Looking forward to a couple of days with my friend Eric Schwartz and exploring my local community.  In the meantime, let’s catch up on indie news and share some new videos.

KRIS ANGELIS TO HOST LIVE EVENT

Los Angeles singer-songwriter and actress Kris Angelis released her three-song EP last year.  Since then, she has written a fourth song and is launching a drive to presale 1000 copies of the new improved EP and put it onto all the digital platforms to share this amazing effort.  We told you about it last year, but I’m proud to say that the new song really makes it better.  Take a listen to the title track on SoundCloud and then check out our interview on Friday as she starts the presale campaign.

https://soundcloud.com/krisangelis/heartbreak-is-contagious-1

Here’s the scoop in her own words:

My new EP “Heartbreak Is Contagious” is a cohesive album that tells a love story from HURT to SORROW to HOPE to JOY and you can hear the story behind it, hear previews of the songs, watch me perform and do a Q&A on the special Live Launch Broadcast happening May 12th! Join my mailing list at krisangelis.com to get the link to the broadcast!

MUSIC VIDEOS

We love discovering new talent.  We recently came across Carrie Lane when she performed on Balcony TV, and immediately fell in love with her husky voice and sexy tunes.  Check out the official video for “If I Can’t be With You.”  We think you’ll love her like we do.

Back to Kris Angelis, she has released an official music video for the title track to Heartbreak is Contagious.  Check it out if you still need convincing that she is one of the crown jewels of indie music.

We were recently introduced to an English alternative pop act named Febueder, which is on the verge of releasing a new EP on Friday.  Here’s a taste of their music with the release of their official music video for “Shapeshifter.”  Please let us know what you think.

Closing us out today is another new artist, Calais, who has released a video for his song “Seeing it All.”  We think you’ll dig it as much as we do.

Michigan indie artist Olivia Millerschin recently won the Great American Song Contest in the singer-songwriter category with her song “We Know Not.”   Millerschin has always been one of our favorite teen musicians, and we love that she is finally being recognized for her talent.  She is currently on a west coast tour.  Catch her live if you live in or near Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Thousand Oaks, Phoenix or Las Cruces.

NEW MUSiC VIDEOS

We are proud to share several  new music videos – let us know what you think about them.

First up is the latest from LA Music Critic Award winner Alison Iraheta’s band Halo Circus, who are hard at work on a tour to support their latest EP The East Lansing Sessions.  Check out the video for “Band-Aid,” which we think is amazing.

Next up is another LA Music Critic Awards winner, Curtis Peoples, who has released a new video for “Damage Control,” featuring his wife, comedian and actress Tara Perry Peoples.  We think you’ll enjoy the chemistry between them, and the song kicks ass too.

Our final new video this week is from an artist we recently reviewed on Get it or Forget it – Single by Sunday.  We were very impressed with this band and think you will be too.  Check out their video for their first single, “Nevereverever.”

Monday mashup 2017: Vol 15

Hope you all had a glorious Easter weekend.  We’re smack dab in the middle of the 40th annual International Wildlife Film Festival, so this is gonna be short and sweet.  Several of our favorite artists have recently released music videos in conjunction with releases of new albums and EPs.  We are sharing those videos with you now, with the album/EP reviews to follow shortly in our Get it or Forget it series.

Speaking of the IWFF, the first two days have been amazing.  We attended the Wild Walk and Wildfest on Saturday morning before heading to the Roxy Theater for the first two episodes of BBC America’s Planet Earth II.  The opening night film was Chasing Coral, followed by an amazing Q&A with Zach Rago and Stacy Picullel.  This is a truly amazing film which will play again Tuesday night.  On Sunday, we attended two films:  Yasuni Man, which had a connection to Missoula, and featured a stirring Q&A with its star and filmmaker, Ryan Killackey, as well as Unlocking the Cage, a film about the quest to give basic rights to non-humans.  That screening was followed by a very informative Q&A with Nonhuman Rights Project founder Steven Wise and a reception sponsored by the Save the Chimps foundation.

Pop/Soul singer Gigi Rich has released her debut five-song EP, which will be reviewed shortly.  We think she has something special and are proud to share her first music video with you here.  Please let us know what you think of this amazing young artist.  We think she’ll be around for quite a while.

We’ll be back soon with the next edition of Get it or Forget it.  Catch you later.
