Monday mashup 2019: vol. 29

Happy Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day!  It’s time for our weekly Monday Mashup and we have some great ones for you today.  Check out these amazing indie tunes.

THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF HEATHER JACKS

Heather Jacks is one of the coolest indie artists I know.  Although she is not a musician, she is an amazing creative artist, photographer, author and supporter of indie music.  She recently invested in “Bubba the Bus,” and is in the process of converting it to her mobile “tiny home.”  Keep up with her adventures by subscribing to her YouTube channel.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is the radio edit of “Heaven’s Gate” from Emily Breeze, who we introduced to you back in August.  Her latest is further proof that this is an artist worth investing in.

Our next single is from another band we previously featured here on Indie Voice Blog back in 2017 (Monday Mashup) and 2018 (Get it or Forget it), The Crowleys.  Here’s their latest offering, “Clarice.”  We’re glad to have you back.

Single number three comes from another IVB favorite artist with an eerie, transcending vibe named Völuspa.  This one is intriguing and haunting and entitled “Live One Life.”

Our next single features the insane harmonies of Transatlantic trio, Raynes on their latest single, “Lemon Drop.”  This one is a potential monster  hit and deserves heavy rotation on American radio.

Our final single this week is the first release from Swiss band Marey.  We love their sound and can’t wait to hear what comes next.  Here’s “Synthetic.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

First up is a quirky lyric video for “High Functioning,” the latest from the amazing Alannah Kavanagh aka Grizzly Coast.  This one will get you going like nothing else.

If you love magic and Americana music, then you will love “In My Time” from Fletcher C Johnson.  This one is just plain fun.

Video number three is a powerful video about human rights from The Oddysy, and features Public Enemy‘s Chuck D on the song “Bang Bang.”  The images are visceral and the message is sorely needed today.

Next up is one of the best videos we have ever seen from Tiffany Young, and she’s provided some great ones.  This one has almost 1 million views, and it was only released on October 10.  It’s called “Run for Your Life,” and we recommend you run to watch it.

Our final video this week comes from multi-LA Music Critic Award winning duo, Lovers & Poets.  We think it just may be their most powerful one yet, and we are ready to head off on a “Sugar High.”

Ten amazing videos released in January 2019

Now that we have featured our 30 favorite singles for the month of January, let’s turn our attention to our 30 favorite videos.  We have already shared 20 of them via our weekly Monday Mashup column, and now present our final selections here in this Ten Amazing Videos article.

We’ll get started with an interesting rock video from the band Nixon’s Ghost.  This one has a very retro feel, and some pretty good animation.  Check out “Once you Leave.”

Our next video is from Hawksley Workman, a truly gifted musician who we think is destined for greater things.  Here is his moving video for “Lazy.”  We think you’ll really like this one.

Our third video is a stirring live performance by Emily King of her new single, “Can’t Hold Me.”  We absolutely love her vocals and everything about this song.  What do you think?

Video number four comes from Budapest, with the rocking sound of Ivan and the Parazol.  Here is their intriguing video for “Changin’.”

For our fifth video, we bring back one of our favorite indie artists, Tiffany Young.  She has a new look but the same great sound.  Here’s her latest, “Born Again.”

Next up is a stunning video shot along the Italian coast for Czech artist Thom Artway‘s latest single, “Can’t Wait.”  We can’t wait to check this one out.

Video number seven is a deeply disturbing yet moving video that visualizes the final track to the new album by Dollshot which we recently reviewed.  “Nacht und Träume” was written by Schubert and the lyrics are based on a poem by  Matthäus von Collin.

The latest from For Esme, a truly introspective tune called “To Love,” is our eighth video for this edition of Ten Amazing Videos.  We love the segue mid-song to an almost disco-esq dance beat.  Enjoy this one.

Our next to last video this month is from the one and only Jess Ribeiro, one of the premier indie artists from down under.  Although we don’t understand what’s happening in the video (and maybe that is on purpose), we still love the sound of “Stranger.”

We close out the month with the latest video from Toronto’s treasure Ace of Wands, the video for the title track of their forthcoming album, “Lioness.”  This one will move you to the core, especially the battle with self-destruction.  Long live the Ace of Wands!

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 44

Happy December!  It was a good weekend for our favorite teams, as Miami knocked off their divisional rivals the Bills, and our Lady Griz won the annual Lady Griz Classic with a come-from-behind victory over UC Davis.  This is going to be a busy week with 10 albums to review, Ten Amazing Videos and Ten Great Singles for November and the announcement of the nominations for the LA Music Critic Awards for the second half of 2018.  Let’s get started.

BLUE ÉLAN RECORDS SUPPORTS ALLIANCE FOR CHILDREN’S RIGHTS

Once again Blue Élan Records is supporting the Alliance for Children’s Rights with the release of their annual Christmas collection.  This year’s offering includes last year’s LA Music Critic Award winning song, “Shine Down on Us,” as well as the latest from The Mustangs of the West, “Everybody Wants Peace on Earth.”  Please support this worthy cause by  streaming it on Spotify or purchase it online

REBELLE ROAD RECORDS TO RELEASE NEW ALICE WALLACE ALBUM

With the demise of California Country Records, a new player has stepped in to continue their legacy.  Rebelle Road Records will release the new Alice Wallace album, Into the Blue, in early January 2019.  Pre-sale has begun, and you can get a sneak peak of the title track, courtesy of The Bluegrass Situation.  This one is gonna be amazing.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is an amazing collaboration between Cheat Codes and Kim Petras.  We love the smooth sound of this truly radio friendly track, “Feeling of Falling,” and think you will love it too.  Enjoy this great start to your week.

Our second single is a special Christmas tune from the amazing Tiffany Young.  We love the smooth soul/R&B sound and think you will love “Peppermint” as much as we do.

Single number three proves disco is not dead, at least not in Amsterdam.  Here’s the latest from Sweetwood, the latest project from collective Voice Calling Radio.  Here’s “One of These Days.”

Next up is the second single from the forthcoming album by TNEO (The New Electronic Orchestra).  Here’s “Look Into the Light.”  We think this one will get you on your feet.  It has a great acoustic guitar, amazing vocals and a steady beat perfect for dancing.

Our final single today is one of the songs from A Blue Élan Christmas, written by multiple Grammy winning artist Jack Tempchin, and featuring Rusty Young of Poco and Jesse Dayton, two of his Blue Élan labelmates.  Check out “Jesus and Mohammed.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Keeping the Christmas spirit going is the video for the amazing tune, “Everybody Wants Peace on Earth” from the newly resurrected Mustangs of the West.  We think you will love the down-home feel of this video, written by lead singer Suzanna Spring.  Happy holidays!

Our next video is a beautiful collection of scenes from Nashville, along with an amazing instrumental cover of the traditional Christmas hymn, “Joy to the World.”  Let the beauty of this song warm your house during your holiday parties.  Thanks Eric Tingstad for this amazing rendition.

Here’s a rare treat, a video of the first live performance of the song “Breaking Down” by Hamish Anderson.  It was filmed at The Belly Up, an indie music venue located in Solana Beach, California.  It should give you a rocking start to this Monday.

Next is a fun video of a great dance tune “Kickdrum Heartbeat” by Van Bobbi.  This one combines elements of R&B, pop, funk and Afro-beat, and “checks all the boxes” for a great song.  Please let us know what you think.

Our final video this week is from Peakes, who we have previously featured in this column.  We love the majestic sound and breathtaking and visually stimulating presentation of their song “Still Life.”

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 28

What a wonderful weekend.  Spent it working the backstage gate at The Decemberists’ Travelers Rest Festival in Missoula.  Over the course of the weekend, I heard a lot of amazing music and made some great new connections, including three members of The Decemberists (Chris Funk, Nate Query and Jenny Conlee) and Colin Meloy’s mom), I’m With Her and their lovely families, indie bands Lenore, Matt the Electrician, Tune-Yards, Cardioid, Ural Thomas & the Pain and Whitney, NPR darling Gaelynn Lea, and fellow Virginian Lucy Dacus.  A full review will be coming soon, so stand by for another busy week of articles.  In the meantime, here are five new singles and five new music videos to get your week off to a good start.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week comes from the creative minds of two amazing songwriters, Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil and Curtis Peoples, as recorded by Peoples.  Here’s one of our new favorite songs, “Castaways.”

Next up is the latest from Sheridan Reed.  We love the groove of “We Should Both be Here,” and are sure you will too.  Enjoy this tune.

Our third single this week is from Americana/roots band HONEY RIVER, and we think this one is a potential mega-hit.  Check out “Peace, Love.”

Our next single is from Dutch band Money & The Man.  It has a harder alternative rock edge and should help shake up your Monday.  Here’s “This Season.”

Our final single today will get you body on the dance floor.  Let’s give it up for “When I Ask You Why,” the latest from dance pop artist and producer Fish Fox.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video this week comes from the granddaughter of Willie Nelson.  She is also a member of the amazing country band mmhmm, which we recently reviewed.  Here is “Mama Cry” from her other band, the Raelyn Nelson Band.

Next up is the latest from Korean-American artist Tiffany Young, who has already accumulated more than 1 million hits on a video that was just released five days ago.  Check out “Over my Skin.”

Our third video is a blast from the past.  The Guess Who were huge back in the early 70s, and they’re back sounding like they never left.  Check out their latest video “Playing on the Radio.”

Next up is “Night After Night” from Rare Americans.  It is a punky indie rock tune which will help propel you into the new week.

We close out the week with the amazing voice of GABI.  This tender ballad will soothe all your troubles away.  Enjoy “Whole With You.”
