Get it or forget it – The Upstart Crows, Olivia Foschi, The Guess Who, DaM-FunK, Murder by Death

As we start the final week in September, we are pleased to continue to bring you reviews of new artists, as well as welcome back another great band from the past who are staging a comeback.  Let’s get going with today’s reviews.

Artist NameThe Upstart Crows

Album NameThe Upstart Crows

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Alt Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Bad Medicine; 2.  Ballad of Broken Bottles; 3.  Dixie Wailin; 4.  Song of Time; 5.  Melancholy Haze; 6.  Mercury Kisses; 7.  Heart to California; 8.  Lying & Crying; 9.  Tightrope Walker; 10.  Nice Guy; 11.  What did I Say; 12.  Wait for Me

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  The Upstart Crows are a two-piece band that formed in 2015 while lead singer and guitarist Jonathan Adams and drummer Forest DeCoste were attending college.  Their debut self-titled album has been two years in the making, and the time was well-spent.  The songs are short and sweet, and although not a concept album, all of the tracks share a lyrical theme of loneliness and regret.  Adams wrote all the songs, and chose an upbeat high energy musical base to present their lyrical message.  Their brand of alt rock borrows heavily from punk, and you can also hear a little celtic influence similar to the sound of the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly.  All in all, it is a most worthy debut effort, and we look forward to hearing what they come up with next.  Best tracks include “Dixie Wailin,” “Song of Time,”  “Mercury Haze,” “Lying & Crying,” “Nice Guy,” and “Wait for Me.”

Recommendation:  Definitely worth checking out.

Artist NameOlivia Foschi

Album Name Fleeting Windows

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Jazz

Track Listing:  1.  Due to Wake up Soon; 2.  Stay as Sweet as you Are; 3.  Firefly; 4.  Dreams Come True; 5.  Dienda; 6.  Pitter Patter; 7.  Quiet Now; 8.  Look for the Silver Lining; 9.  Tiny Toes; 10.  My Life; 11.  Looking Up

Publicist:  Are Group

Review:  This beautifully relaxing album has everything lovers of jazz and big band enjoy, a truly mellow musical vibe, beautiful vocals and lyrics that tell a story.  Olivia Foschi has delivered a perfectly written group of songs that present the true emotional gamut that almost every woman can relate to, told from a mother of twins.  Not only can women relate, but men will enjoy the incredible jazz sound, as well as the soaring vocals of Foschi.  We really love what she’s done with “Look for the Silver Lining,” that amazing song from the musical Monty Python’s Spamalot.  Overall, this album is an incredible homage to the history of great jazz music, with its beautiful keys, perfect jazz drums, and the scatting of artists like Etta James.  These songs are destined to become classics, and this album will become one of your most treasured jazz recordings.

Recommendation:  If you love jazz, you must Get this one.

Artist NameThe Guess Who

Album NameThe Future IS What it Used to Be

Label:  Cleopatra Records

Genre:  Classic Rock

Track Listing:  1.  When we Were Young; 2.  Runnin Blind; 3.  Talks all the Time; 4.  Baby Come Around; 5.  Haunted; 6.  In America; 7.  Playin’ on the Radio; 8.  Give it a Try; 9.  Good Girl; 10.  Long Day

Publicist:  Eric Alper PR

Review:  Although only one original member of the band remains (drummer Garry Peterson), this band is worthy of the name, and takes their legacy in a new direction, adapting to the musical tastes of today.  Lead vocalist Derek Sharp (D#) has an amazing range and delivers potential hit songs that will win over even the most die-hard fans of the band’s original rock vibe,  We featured the video for the band’s first single, “Playin’ on the Radio,” last month and stand by our initial assessment of their new sound.  From the first notes of “When we Were Young,” it becomes quickly obvious that this band has returned to reclaim their place on Top 40 radio.  There are so many potential hits on this one, that you should just put it on repeat, kick back and rock out.  Best tracks include “When we Were Young,” “Runnin’ Blind,” “Baby Come Around,” the beautiful ballad “Haunted,” “In America,” the amazing title track, and “Good Girl.”

Recommendation:  You simply MUST run out and Get this one.  It will remind you why you always secretly loved this band.

Artist NameDāM-FunK

Album NameArchitecture II

Label:  Glydezone Recordings

Genre:  Modern Funk

Track Listing:  1.  Don’t Give Up; 2.  Best Weekend; 3.  Bounce; 4.  In the City

Publicist:  Worldwide Friendly Society

Review: This amazing artist creates his own modern vision of funk, incorporating aspects of jazz, boogie, aor, soul, house and more into a delightful mix that is perfect for both those chill times and when you’re hosting a house party.  His tunes would be a great addition to any DJ, and definitely get the party started on the dance floor.  They are instrumentals, which makes them also ripe for use by smart music supervisors in commercial, film and television applications.

Recommendation:  If you love to dance, or just love great music, then Get this one.

Artist NameMurder by Death

Album NameThe Other Shore

Label:  Bloodshot Records

Genre:  Americana

Track Listing:  1.  Alas; 2.  Chasing Ghosts; 3.  True Dark; 4.  Stone; 5.  Travelin’ Far; 6.  Only Time; 7.  Space; 8.  Bloom; 9.  I Have Arrived; 10.  New Old City; 11.  Last Night on Earth

Publicist:  Bloodshot Records

Review The Other Shore is an amazing concept album with the central theme being what happens when the Earth becomes so ravaged that its populace must flee the planet to continue their existence.  Told in the style of a space-western, its songs give the listener much to think about and are set in an old fashioned country/ folk style that is full of body and soul, with a heavy string sound, including mandolin, guitar, bass, cello and fiddle.  The lead singer has a voice that reminds us of the late Chris Ledoux.  This band has been at the core of the recent Americana music explosion since the early 2000s, and this album will only strengthen their stock and recognition.

Recommendation:  We highly recommend this album.  We suggest you Get it today!

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 34

It’s the final week of September, and things are still popping on the indie music scene.  The non-stop barrage of new releases continues, and we are working like crazy to get them all reviewed for you.  But before we get back to that task, let’s take a moment to see what else is happening, and share five new singles and five new music videos with you, as well as check in on multiple LA Music Critic Awards winner and Blue Élan Records Americana superstar Rod Melancon.

ROD MELANCON HAS AN EXPLOSIVE WEEK

Rod Melancon thought this week would be like any other, but he woke up Monday morning to find not only critical success from the release of his latest single, “Westgate,” which we featured last week and which was also highlighted in Rolling Stone’s Top 10 Songs of the Week on Friday, but his song, “Wanna Go for a Ride” is being featured in a national Toyota commercial.

“Last night one of my childhood friends called me up after he heard my song playing behind a Toyota commercial.  I could hear the excitement in his voice.  People from my hometown really root for one another.  This is what it’s all about,” said Melancon.

“Westgate” is the first single from his forthcoming album Pinkville, which is scheduled to be released in spring 2019.   Rolling Stone praised “Westgate” as ‘equal parts talking blues and bar-band Southern rocker.  Melancon glues both halves together with a voice that’s every bit as punchy and pockmarked as the song’s
protagonist.’”

“Wanna Go for a Ride” is a song from his second album Parish Lines, which was released in 2014.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week comes to us courtesy of Open All Nite Entertainment, which has been extremely busy promoting talent lately.  Their client John Hickman released his latest single, “What’s This All About” last Friday, and we are pleased to share it with you today.

Paria fuses Iranian, Latin and UK bass beats into her very own brand of DIY pop, and the result is the incredible single, “Casual.”  This one will get you up and moving.

Our third single is another amazing pop/soul track, this time from the likewise amazing artist Nuela Charles, who was a part of our Ten Great Singles article back in March.  She wants to know, ‘Are you looking for some “Danger?'”

We switch it up to some straight ahead rock with “Nobody’s Fool”by Carlo & the Montes, featuring Akovia.  It reminds us of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and we think you will dig it.

Our final single this week is the PREMIERE of the latest track from Push & Rama Duke.  Check out the amazing dance tune “Frozen,” which is very reminiscent of those monster hits from Donna Summer.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video this week is the long-awaited new song from Magnolia Memoir.  Check out this amazing 80s-inspired tune, “Afterlife.”  We are so glad to have them back!

Next up is the video for the title track of Colin Devlin‘s new album High Point, which we will be reviewing on October 5.  We love the sound of and the images, and think you will too.

Our third video is from an LA staple, Eileen Carey, who brings us the country pop smash “That Town,” which reminds us of early Faith Hill.  Enjoy this beautiful video.

In our fourth video this week, dance duo Karmic drops some “Wisdom Pie,” with a groovy fun tune that is perfect for the dance floor.

We close out the week with the first video from the upcoming new album from KT Tunstall, Wax, which is being released on October 5.  Check out “The River.”

Get it or forget it – Johnny and the Headhunters, Andrew Bayer, Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers, United Ghosts, Lauren Balthrop

Since we couldn’t publish our Get It or Forget It article on Thursday due to working the Luke Bryan concert, we are providing a special Saturday edition to make up for it.  Enjoy these amazing artists.

Artist Name:  Johnny & The Headhunters

Album NameThat’s All I Need

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Blues/R&B

Track Listing:  1.  That’s All I Need; 2.  Lead me On; 3.  Body and Fender Man; 4.  Chicken House; 5.  Rock ’em Dead; 6.  Shake Your Money Maker; 7.  Ace of Spades; 8.  Watch and Chain (Hey Gyp) (ft Liz Springer); 9.  All my Whole Life; 10.  Collins Mambo

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  The blues and R&B are a natural fit, and nobody does it better than Johnny Ticktin and his Headhunters.  Ticktin was the lead guitar player with Louisiana Red, who won multiple BMA awards, and has now released his 8th album with his Headhunters.  None of these tunes are originals, but that doesn’t matter because Ticktin and his band breathe new life into these standards and truly make them their own, starting with their version of the title track, originally recorded by Magic Sam back in 1967.  The band also has some amazing guest musicians on this album, including Tam Sullivan on keys for “Lead Me On” and Liz Springer (Built for Comfort) on vocals for “Watch and Chain (Hey Gyp).”  Ticktin even gets to showcase his amazing guitar riffs on Link Wray‘s instrumental “Ace of Spades,” as well as throughout this amazing collection that truly pays homage to some of the biggest and baddest to ever play the blues, rockabilly or garage rock, including Chet Atkins, Lowell Fulson, Elmore James and Albert Collins.

Recommendation:  If you love guitar, the blues, rockabilly or just love great music, then this one is for you.  Go Get it.

Artist NameAndrew Bayer

Album Name In my Last Life

Label:  AnjunaBeats

Genre:  Electronic

Track Listing:  1.  Tidal Wave (ft Alison May); 2.  Love you More (ft Ane Brun); 3.  Open End Resource (ft Alison May); 4.  Hold Onto You (ft Ane Brun); 5.  In my Last Life (ft Alison May); 6.  Immortal Lover (ft Alison May); 7.  Your Eyes (ft Ane Brun); 8.  End of all Things (ft Alison May)

Publicist:  Mystic Sons

Review:  Grammy-nominated producer Andrew Bayer proves that he is a true artist on his third solo effort, In my Last Life.  We introduced his video for “Immortal Lover” to you in our Monday Mashup in July.  He has crafted the electronic beat in such a way that the listener is immediately caught up in the sheer beauty of the music, helped along by the dynamic vocals of both Alison May and Ane Brun, which take the songs to even greater heights.  Their voices are reminiscent of such artists as Enya and Sarah MacLachlan with their abilities to soar on the notes with wispy, ethereal voices that are powerful and strong.  Every song is worthy of your attention, and we recommend you listen to them over and over again.

Recommendation:  Don’t think twice – run out and Get this one!

Artist NameMichele D’Amour and the Love Dealers

Album NameWiggle Room

Label:  Blueskitty Records

Genre:  Blues

Track Listing:  1.  Falling Down; 2.  Sweet Lovin Man; 3.  Wiggle Room; 4.  Honey on the Side; 5. Nothing to No One; 6.  Let it Slide; 7.  Been so Long; 8.  Worthy; 9.  He Can’t be Wrong; 10.  Hard Times

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers are another in a string of award winning blues bands based in Seattle.  Their three previous albums have all received international radio airplay, and this one will be no exception.  It is already #1 on the RMR charts (four weeks and counting), and all 10 songs have charted.  D’Amour also won the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition for her song “Trouble,” as well as a nomination from the Washington Blues Society for Best Songwriter.  The music is funky and smooth, with those amazing vocals of D’Amour leading the way.  On the musician side, she gets some amazing help from Noel Barnes on sax, Patrick McDaniel on bass and trombone, Jeff Cornell on electric and resonator guitar, Dave Delzotto on drums and Brian Olendorf on keys, as well as special appearances by Angelo Ortiz on congas and Greg Lyons on trumpet.  Vocally she gets some great backing vocals from special guests Nora Michaels and John Oliver III.  This album should be the crown jewel of your blues collection.

Recommendation:  Don’t even think about it – you simply MUST add this one to your collection.  Get it now!

Artist NameUnited Ghosts

Album NameSaturn Days

Label:  Cleopatra Records

Genre:  Electronic

Track Listing:  1.  Waves; 2.  All you sad Boys; 3.  Melodista; 4.  Ever Closer; 5.  Crash; 6.  Ride Baby Ride; 7.  Can’t Feel the Rain; 8.  Too Clean Too Slow; 9.  Maybe you Feel; 10.  Star Song

Publicist:  Noisy Ghost PR

ReviewSha Sabi and Axel Ray aka United Ghosts may currently be based in LA, but they got there from New York/San Francisco and London.  Their brand of electronic features their awesome vocals on top of killer drums, guitars and synths, creating a mesmerizing brand of music that will definitely keep the kids on the dance floor at the local night club.  It is no wonder that this band is killing it in Europe or that they have recently been signed to Cleopatra Records.  Although it’s been four years since their last release, their brilliant new album was certainly worth the wait.

Recommendation:  Run, don’t walk, and Get this one.

Artist NameLauren Balthrop

Album NameThis Time Around

Label:  Tone Tree Music

Genre:  Folk/Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Down; 2.  Don’t Ever Forget; 3.  Tumbleweed; 4.  Accident; 5.  Come Around; 6.  Maple Tree; 7.  Long Day; 8.  Waiting Game; 9.  We Fell; 10.  I’m Ready

Publicist:  The Syndicate

Review:  Lauren Balthrop possesses one of those voices that are rare, the kind that can transform even the darkest lyrics and made them seem bright and happy.  We featured her video for “Don’t Ever Forget” in our Monday Mashup column in July, as well as her lyric video for “Down” in June.  She has set a high bar for herself on this debut album, which is definitely one of the best we’ve experienced this year and features Peter Lalish on guitar, Jason Lawrence on drums, Josh Kaufman on bass, and Karen Waltuch on strings, as well as Elizabeth Ziman, Annie Nero, Lucas Madrazo, Maia Friedman and Tom Krueger on backing vocals.  To paraphrase  the words of that great pop song from the 90’s, “Her future’s so bright, she’s gonna need shades.”

Recommendation:  GET IT NOW!

Get it or forget it – The Textones, Juicer, CAP ON., Rachelle Coba, Greg Laswell

Happy first day of fall!  The indie projects just keep on coming, and we are proud to share five new albums that are all being released today, including the return of a pioneering band from 40 years ago, The Textones.

Artist Name The Textones

Album NameOld Stone Gang

Label:  Blue Élan Records

Genre:  Indie Rock/Americana

Track Listing:  1.  Downhearted Town; 2.  Bared my Soul; 3.  Old Stone Gang; 4.  20 Miles South of Wrong; 5.  One Half Rock; 6.  All That Wasted Time; 7.  Midnight Roundabout; 8.  Ghost on a River; 9.  Come Stay the Night; 10.  Carly Jo; 11.  Walkin’ or Waitin’; 12.  Ride On

Publicist:  MAD Ink PR

Review:  Carla Olson started The Textones back in 1978, pioneering a form of rock that would eventually grow into our Americana music scene today.  After recording two albums, life took its toll and the band broke up.  Starting in 2012, original members Carla Olson, George Callins, Joe Read, Rick Hemmert and Tom Jr. Morgan reunited and began recording some of the tracks that became this album, although they didn’t sign with Blue Élan Records until earlier this year.   They are joined on the new album by special guests Phil Seymour, Kathy Valentine, David Provost, Markus Cuff, Richard D’Andrea, Rusty Young, Allan Clarke, Barry Goldberg and Todd Wolfe.   As a result of this impressive talent, this album has definitely been worth the wait, and the band sounds as strong and relevant as they did back in the early 80s when their last album was released.  Olson has been busy perfecting her craft, as is evident from her songwriting.  She wrote or co-wrote nine of the twelve tracks, and every one of them is a potential radio hit.  It’s as if she and the band never left the music scene, and we are so glad to have them back on our radar.  Best tracks include “Downhearted Town,” the title track, the first single “20 Miles South of Wrong” (which we featured in our Monday Mashup), “All That Wasted Time,” the jazzy “Midnight Roundabout,” “Carly Jo,” and “Walkin’ or Waitin’.”  We also love “One Half Rock,” which starts out with the 1985 rehearsal recording by Seymour before shifting to a new version featuring Olson on vocals.

Recommendation:  You NEED this one in your collection.  Better get to their CD Release show tonight at The Federal Bar in Los Angeles at 8 p.m.

Artist NameJuicer

Album NameMach IV

Label:  All Good Clean Records

Genre:  Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Mach IV; 2.  Saturday Night OD; 3.  Catch 25; 4.  You Scared me Straight; 5.  Unconditional Love; 6.  Forever is a Long Time; 7.  Concussion Machine; 8.  The Slacker; 9.  Burrito; 10.  On the Move

Publicist:  Viral Propaganda PR

Review:  Norway’s Juicer brings us hard hitting dirty rock with lyrics that speak of today’s issues.  The band is tight with a hard-hitting rhythm section, screaming guitars, and the perfect vocals to deliver their powerful message.  Combining straight ahead rock with 80s metal and punk creates a sound that will appeal to all rock lovers.  The music is almost overwhelming in its sheer power, while the lyrics definitely give you something to think about while your banging your head to the beat.

Recommendation:  If you love rock, you will love this album.  Do yourself a favor and Get it.

Artist NameCAP ON.

Album Name Be Better Than Jeff

Label:  Hicktown Records

Genre:  Pop/Funk

Track Listing:  1.  Individuality; 2.  Dance; 3.  Fast Lane; 4.  Summer Feelings; 5.  Certain Grin; 6.  Night Train to Amsterdam

Publicist:  Hicktown Records

Review:  The seven members of German band CAP ON. have created a very interesting sound they call “seven-in-one,” which is composed of funk, pop, blues, rock, soul, fusion and electro genres.  This album will get you dancing, pump you up and make you move.  It is an amazing debut, and we fully expect this band’s popularity will explode all over Europe and spread to the rest of the world.  We recommend you just put this one on repeat.

Recommendation:  Definitely Get this one!

Artist NameRachelle Coba

Album NameBlink

Label:  American Showplace Music

Genre:  Blues/Roots

Track Listing:  1.  High and Dry; 2.  Dance These Blues Away; 3.  Good Ole Heartbreak; 4.  No Deals; 5.  River of Blood; 6.  Blink; 7.  Bad Reputation; 8.  You Stole my Heart; 9.  Shuffle Ya; 10.  Maybe; 11.  Blame it on the Blues

Publicist:  Rick Lusher

Review:  Rachelle Coba is part Etta James, part Janis Joplin and a whole lotta awesome.  Her musical sound will lift you up and get your feet moving with its upbeat brand of ass-kicking blues.  It’s got the high energy rocking sound of rockabilly, combined with a funky drum beat and screaming blues guitar, all wrapped up in those amazing vocals of Coba.  Like her press release says, “this ain’t your momma’s blues.”  This album will appeal to a whole new level of blues lovers and should easily cross over to other genres as well.  It is well worth the attention, and we suspect it will soon top the charts.

Recommendation:  This one is a must-have for specifically blues lovers as well as lovers of all types.  Go out and Get it.

Artist NameGreg Laswell

Album Name Next Time

Label:  Leg Graswell Records

Genre:  Singer-Songwriter Pop

Track Listing:  1,  Royal Empress; 2.  Next Time; 3.  Super Moon; 4.  Choice in the Matter; 5.  I Will not Resign; 6.  What do I Know; 7.  Where you Find Me; 8.  For You; 9.  Do Better; 10.  Never Want to See You Again; 11.  Next Time (piano version)

Publicist:  Perpetual Media Relations

Review:  Greg Laswell was one of the first artists we met when we moved to LA, and we used to sit in the old piano room at The Hotel Café and chat while he played the piano.  It is so refreshing to see how he has grown over the years, and Next Time is his best and most personal album to date.  We featured the lyric video for his first single, “Royal Empress,” which is a natural segue from his previous album, Everyone Thinks I Dodged a Bullet.  You can feel the pain and emotion in each and every note, while also drawing comfort from the fact that others are experiencing the same things you are.  In the song “I Will not Resign,” he gives us these comforting words:  “We are not defined by our choices, but our response to them, along the way.”  Every song on this album is powerful, and Laswell captures the Springsteen sound in presenting them to us.  You need to listen to this album a few times for everything to sink in, so put it on repeat and enjoy.  There isn’t a weak track on the album, so sit back, relax, enjoy the vibe, and, in the words of NCIS: New Orleans character Dwayne Pride, “Learn Things.”

Recommendation:  Run out and Get this one TODAY!

Review:  They have been called “Denmark’s greatest secret,” but we just call them amazing Classic Rock.  Royal Hunt has created 14 albums to date, and this release of one of their bests is a special treat.  It brings back memories of those wonderful hair bands of the 80s, while still retaining the freshness of new music, with screaming guitar riffs, perfect rock vocals, and lyrics that actually mean something.  This one hits the ground running with “Running Wild,” and never stops, packing in 16 amazing songs that are sure to be a hit with every rock music lover.  These songs would make a great soundtrack for your next party, and should be a part of every music supervisor’s catalog, as they are perfect for placement in commercials, television and film.

Recommendation:  Don’t let me stop you – Get this one now!

Artist NameAmy Stroup

Album NameHelen of Memphis

Label:  Milkglass

Genre:  Indie Pop/Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Far Side of the Sea; 2.  Magic; 3.  Made; 4.  Stare; 5.  Wild Nights; 6.  Lost Ones; 7.  Hero; 8.  Go That Far; 9.  Thrill of it; 10.  Fearless; 11.  Magic (Verlou remix); 12.  Stare (Verlou remix)

Review:  We featured her single “Wild Nights” in our Monday Mashup column, and are so happy to be able to review the rest of her album Helen of Memphis.  Amy Stroup has a sweet indie pop/rock sound with elements of folk and a voice that is reminiscent of Kim Carnes.  Her music is definitely radio friendly, and we think she would be an excellent choice for heavy rotation on AAA radio.  Besides her amazing single “Wild Nights,” we also love “Far Side of the Sea,” “Magic” (both versions), “Stare” (both versions), “Lost Ones,” “Go That Far,” and “Fearless.”

Recommendation:  You simply must Get this one – it is amazing!

Genre:  Psychedelic Power Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Get Going; 2.  Psycho Trip; 3.  Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  Originally from Peru, The Spanish Flies now call Edmonton, Canada home, and bring this diverse culture to their music.  Their accents almost have a reggae vibe, adding a special feel to the 60s style “Austin Powers” sound.  Our only regret is that there are only three songs to enjoy on this power-packed EP, and they’re all great.

Recommendation:  Definitely give this one a spin.

Artist NameDennis Herrera

Album NameYou Stole my Heart

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Blues

Track Listing:  1.  You Stole my Heart; 2.  Takes Money; 3.  Fore; 4.  With no Refrain; 5.  Lock Out; 6.  Recovery; 7.  You can Name It; 8.  Backed Up; 9.  My Past Time; 10.  Run with the Losers; 11.  Bittersweet

Publicist:  Frank Roszak Promotions

Review:  With a delicious mix of Chicago and Texas blues, Dennis Herrera brings us one of the best blues albums since The Blues Brothers first hit the scene.  You can feel the Texas swing in the guitar and the Chicago horns made these cuts so tasty, especially on the title track.  This one will take you on a wonderful blues journey that will leave you wanting more.  There is not a weak track on the album, so enjoy it on repeat.

Recommendation:  If you love the blues, then you simply must add this one to your collection.  Get it today!

Artist NameLocult

Album Name Late Night Pharmacies

Label:  Pretty Young Thing/Pocket Records

Genre:  Alt Rock Instrumental

Track Listing:  1.  Reisefeber; 2.  Medicine; 3.  Warszawa; 4.  Reykjavik (ft Karoline Sleide Petersen); 5.  Sky Diver; 6.  Kablys Nights; 7.  Night Time; 8.  I Have Tried; 9.  The Cold Water

Publicist:  PrettyYoungThing

Review:  Locult comes to us from Norway, delivering amazingly mellow instrumental music with a distinctly Nordic sound.  There is a stand-out vocal on the track “Reykjavik” that features the stunning voice of Karoline Sleide Petersen.  Other than that, this dynamic duo has created the music supervisor’s dream soundtrack – tunes that can be used for so many placement opportunities for commercials, television and film.  In addition, some tracks would work great for relaxation and chill times, while others will get you  pumped up.  This one is a great soundtrack for daily living.

Recommendation:  This is a no-brainer.  Get this one for your collection and chill.

Get it or forget it – Autumn, YYNOT, Medeski Martin & Wood, Ken Sharp, Corinne Cook

Still on a high from last night’s concert featuring The Head & the Heart and The Avett Brothers.  It was simply phenomenal and one of the best concerts we have ever attended.  To continue with that high note, here are five artists for you to check out.

Artist Name Autumn

Album NameChandelier

Label:  Sett Records

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Beginnings; 2.  The Maiden’s Child; 3.  The Fall; 4.  Soulsong; 5.  At Summer’s End; 6.  From Under the Waves; 7.  Damage; 8.  Just Before the Storm; 9.  Shadowgirl 2; 10.  Away; 11.  White Light; 12.  My Last Confession; 13.  A Vow Worth Keeping; 14.  Chandelier

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion

Review:  Indie rock bands with strong female vocalists are rare, but Autumn definitely belongs in that category.  Lead singer Julia Plante has the same type of powerful pipes as Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, Amy Lee of Evanescence and Maria Brink of In This Moment.  Her band likewise has the musical skills to support that powerful voice.  This album takes off on the first track and never lets up.  Among the best tracks on the album are “The Maiden’s Child,” “The Fall,” “At Summer’s End,” “Damage,” “Shadowgirl 2,” “My Last Confession *with its retro Depeche Mode vibe),” and the title track

Recommendation:  Don’t hesitate – run out and Get this one.

Artist NameYYNOT

Album NameYYNOT

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Hourglass; 2.  Invisible Heart; 3.  Etheria; 4.  To Come Back Home; 5.  Kingdom Come; 6.  The Curtain Falls; 7.  Another Trip Around the Sun; 8.  Run on Love; 9.  YYNOT

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  YYNOT has a sound very reminiscent of Rush (which is should, considering they started the band as a way to pay tribute to the band) and even the sound of lead vocalist Rocky Kuner‘s vocals is eerily similar to the high pitched voice of Rush’s Geddy Lee.  Every song is a treasure, but especially “Invisible Heart” and “Etheria.”  All of the sounds and music were written by one of LA’s best indie musicians and producers, Billy Alexander, making this band so much more powerful because of their ability to mix original tunes with their catalog of Rush songs.  The album concludes with a killer instrumental that would truly made Mr. Lee proud.

Recommendation:  If you love rock, then you will love YYNOT.  Definitely add this one to your musical library.

Artist Name Medeski Martin & Wood (with Alarm Will Sound)

Album NameOmnisphere

Label:  Indirector Records

Genre:  Jazz Instrumental

Track Listing:  1.  Kid Tao Mammal (Unworldliness Weirdo); 2.  Anoymous Skulls; 3.  Coral Sea; 4.  Oh ye of Little Faith (Do you Know Where Your Children Are?); 5.  Eye of Ra; 6.  Northern Lights; 7.  End of the World Party

Publicist:  Calabro Music Media

Review:  Jazz/Funk trio Medeski Martin & Wood join with the orchestral 20-piece ensemble Alarm will Sound to bring us the amazing collaboration contained in Omnisphere.  These two entirely different bands have produced a gem, creating a jazz sound that delivers big time enjoyment.  Their collaboration has everything both jazz and classical lovers enjoy, retaining the best elements of both genres.  This greatness can be immediately felt in the first track, “Kid Tao Mammal,” and continues throughout the album.  This is the perfect album for relaxing and meditation.

Recommendation:  Don’t miss this one – Get it today!

Artist NameKen Sharp

Album NameBeauty in the Backseat

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Pop/Soul

Track Listing:  1.  Rock Show; 2.  Mona Lisa Smile; 3.  Lemons to Lemonade; 4.  No One Seems to Stay Together Anymore; 5.  Closer; 6.  24 Hours a Day; 7.  Pull the Strings; 8.  The Day That David Bowie Died; 9.  The Hardest Part; 10.  Jet Fighter; 11.  Ring on Your Finger; 12.  Listen to Me; 13.  Sinking; 14.  I Wanna be David Cassidy; 15.  Philly Kind of Night; 16.  Miracle

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  Ken Sharp is a multi-faceted New York Times best selling writer who just happens to also make critically acclaimed power pop music.  These worlds have collided with the release of his new album, Beauty in the Backseat, featuring the amazing guitar of Ace Frehley of KISS on the opening track, “Rock Show,” as well as the vocals of John Oates on “Philly Kind of Night,” a loving tribute to the music of Hall & Oates.  The album is co-produced by Sharp and the amazing award winning Fernando Perdomo, and has everything you want in an album that definitely qualifies as a “guilty pleasure.”   Enjoy this treasure trove of fun, especially “I Wanna be David Cassidy.”

Recommendation:  This is one of the best albums of 2018.  Get it before it’s gone.

Artist NameCorinne Cook

Album Name Yes I Can

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Country

Track Listing:   1.  Last Thing to Go; 2.  One Box of Tissues; 3.  Yes I Can; 4.  Trying not to Die; 5.  Devil’s Heaven; 6.  Mr. Mechanic; 7.  Seven White Stars; 8.  Those Few Dreams

Publicist:  Open All Nite Entertainment

Review:  Contemporary country artist Corinne Cook delivers a stunning album with her latest, Yes I Can.  Her powerful vocals draw comparison to those of Faith Hill and Martina McBride, and the title track is a female empowerment ballad that likewise belongs with the likes of McBride’s “Let’s Hear if for the Girls.”   Her first single, “Trying Not to Die” is likewise as powerful as McBride’s “Independence Day,” which was penned by the legendary Gretchen Peters.  This album is worlds beyond Cook’s debut album, and should help launch her into the elite level of today’s country music scene.  Cook also shows that she means business with the country rock sounds of “Last Thing to Go” and “Devil’s Heaven.”  There isn’t a weak song on the album, and we guarantee you’ll be putting this one on repeat, especially the beautifully patriotic “Seven White Stars” and “Those Few Dreams.”

Recommendation:  This one is a must-have, if you love country music, and believe in female empowerment.  Drop what you’re doing and Get it now!

LA TALK RADIO HOST SHEENA METAL LAUNCHES NEW COLOGNE

Long time Los Angeles concert promoter and personality Sheena Metal has always been a lover of all things that smell good, and secretly wanted my own fragrance.   Thanks to Scott Travis and CBT Candle LA, her dream has come true and she is celebrating the release of her own cologne, Ascend, on Sunday, September 23.

The launch will take place at the Hollywood Improv, alongside the celebration, of her 24-year radio host anniversary, and will feature celebrity guests, an audience interactive, live radio broadcast of my daily LA Talk Radio show, “The Sheena Metal Experience”, a red carpet before and a meet-and-greet after, as well as plenty of surprises. If you would like to attend, please send an email to her, and watch for more events leading up to her 25th anniversary.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is from the amazingly talented duo Smoke Season.  Entitled “Hot Damn,” it is another smash from this hugely popular LA band, and we think it is the perfect song to kick off this new week.  Listen for it on your local radio station.

Our next single is the latest from multiple LA Music Critic Award winner and Blue Élan Records artist Rod Melancon.  We think you will love the autobiographical “Westgate” and we can’t wait to hear his next album.

Our third single comes from New York-based DJ/Producer The Afterprty, and features Nashville-based indie vocalist Harper Grae on “Wonder Woman.”  This one has an infectious beat and amazing vocals.  Let us know what you think.

Single number four is from The Textones from their forthcoming comeback album on Blue Élan Records.  We are so glad that this amazing band is returning to the music scene, and can’t wait for the release of Old Stone Gang, which we will be reviewing on Friday.  In the meantime, enjoy “20 Miles South of Wrong.”

Our final single this week is from the amazing MAWD, who sounds like a cross between Janis Joplin and Elle King.  Check out her song “Wandering Eye,” which we guarantee will get you up and dancing into the week.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

First up this week is the video for the third single, “Harlan,” from the award winning album Wow and Flutter by Amilia K Spicer.  This one brings back a lot of memories of small town living.

Our next video is very special, as it features our friends Raining Jane, who are currently on tour with Jason Mraz.  Enjoy this very special lyric video, “From Me to You.”

Next up is the video of a single we debuted here last month from LA indie rock artist, Kim Kline.  Listen to the words of her song “Stand Tall” and help us fight bullying.

Former country great Michael Peterson has returned in a big way in 2018, and has released a new video for his two time #1 song, “From Here to Eternity.”  This is one of the most beautiful and romantic songs ever written, and we think you will love this updated version.

We close out this week with another artist from Blue Élan Records.  We recently featured her previous video, and really love this new one from Roan Yellowthorn.  Here’s “Lie.”

Get it or forget it – Dennis Duff, The Chairman Dances, Chris Lightcap, Subterfuge, The Skylarks

Well, we made it to Friday again, with lots of football ahead this weekend on the high school, college and professional circuits.  Let’s get you ready for the weekend with these next five artists.  Let us know what you think.

Artist NameDennis Duff

Album Name Songs From Lyon County

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Country/Folk

Track Listing:  1.  Wilson Holler; 2.  Hey Mr. TVA; 3.  Road to Dover; 4.  Night Riders; 5.  TC and Pearl; 6.  Castle on the Cumberland; 7.  Iron Hill; 8.  37 Flood; 9.  When I Leave Kentucky

Publicist:  So Much Moore Media

Review:  Dennis Duff is a storyteller with a love for history.  His latest effort catalogs the history of Lyon County, Kentucky in a way that is reminiscent of those great storytellers of the folk scene in the 50s and 60s like Woody Guthrie and Joan Baez.  According to his press release, the songs are like diary entries regarding important events that affected this section of our country, and we think he nailed the description.  These are the kind of songs that become folk classics and will remain relevant forever.  While Duff is not immortal, these songs are, and should become a part of our folk history.

Recommendation:  If you love history and folk music, this is the album for you.  Get it today!

Artist NameThe Chairman Dances

Album Name Child of my Sorrow

Label:  Black Rd Records

Genre:  Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1. Acme Parking Garage; 2.  Mascot; 3.  Iridescent; 4.  No Compass, No Map; 5.  A Half-Mile from Allentown (intro); 6.  A Half-Mile from Allentown; 7.  No One can Hurt You (Like a Friend can Hurt You); 8.  Hannah, I Know it Wasn’t Always Easy; 9.  Out of the Lion’s Den, Into the Lion’s Maw; 10.  First to Leave; 11.  Child of my Sorrows

Publicist:  Noisy Ghost PR

Review:  The majority of the latest album from The Chairman Dances was recorded live, and that energy comes through loud and clear.  This is not your typical indie rock band – this band isn’t just about the music, but the story is just as important.  The songs are extremely well written, especially the lyrics, and like a good audio book, they enthrall and entice the listener to become part of the story.  The vocals are not the smoothest we have heard, but are effective in their delivery of the all important lyrical content.  The music will suck you in while the band passes on their story, and the combination of the two is incredible.

Recommendation:  This one is definitely worth your attention.

Artist NameChris Lightcap

Album NameSuperette

Label:  Royal Potato Family

Genre:  Instrumental Jazz Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Selector; 2.  She Walked In; 3.  Far Away Planet; 4.  While you Were Out; 5.  Djali; 6.  Calling on Cars; 7.  Ace of Spades; 8.  Light Trails; 9.  All Come to Meet Her; 10.  Frozen Bread; 11.  Birds

Publicist:  Royal Potato Family

Review:  Chris Lightcap is a gifted bassist and composer and with the help of guitarists Curtis Hasselbring and Jonathan Goldberger, drummer Dan Rieser, and special guests Nels Cline and John Medeski, brings us stirring instrumental music that is truly genre-defying.  This is jazz for those who love rock and/or experimental music, and the electrifying songs deliver a sonic adventure that the listener will not soon forget.  This music has to be heard to be believed, and is a beacon of hope that jazz will never die as long as it continues to evolve.

Recommendation:  You simply must Get this one.

Artist NameSubterfüge

Album NameWe are all Refugees

Label:  SquidHat Records

Genre:  Punk/Hardcore

Track Listing:  1.  Ear to the Radio; 2.  We are all Refugees; 3.  The Score; 4.  Ask Your Doctor

Publicist:  SquidHat Records

Review:  In their first release since 1984, Subterfüge proves that their message is just as relevant today as it was 34 years ago.  This is punk with a true purpose, and is delivered in such a way that most rock fans will embrace the music and in turn the message.  This short four-song EP gives hope to the hopeless, with timely themes of fake news, immigration, Trump and commercials for prescription drugs.  One thing is for sure, they are not afraid to tackle huge social issues.

Recommendation:  If you love punk or rock, and desire social change, this is the album for you.

Artist NameThe Skylarks

Album NameOn the Back of the New

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Americana

Track Listing:  1.  As if to Say; 2.  Carry it Home; 3.  Change of Heart; 4.  Even in the Afternoon; 5.  For my own Regard; 6.  In Centipede; 7.  No Surrender; 8.  On the Back of the New; 9.  On the Ropes; 10.  Send a Message to the Night

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  The Skylarks have been making music in Los Angeles for more than 10 years, and are quietly becoming one of the best Americana bands in the country with their smoky sweet blend of Americana, country and folk music.  The vocals of both Sam Mellon and Amy Luftig Viste sit perfectly atop the well played acoustic guitar of Mellon, and the rest of the band, which includes Julian Goldwhite on pedal steel, Anthony Cook on bass, Dan Clucas on trumpet and percussion, Russ Chaput on lead guitar and Brian Olamit on drums and backing vocals,  This is a band that is so smooth you can listen to them forever and never get tired of their sound.  There is not a weak song on the entire album, so put it on repeat and enjoy.

Recommendation:  Drop everything and Get this one!

Get it or forget it – Lay Low Moon, Lawrence Lebo, Dave Wells, A Very Special Episode, Lost Chocolate Lab

Happy Thursday!  Hope your week has been great.  We had such a great time yesterday bringing you this column, and we’re excited to see what today holds, including the latest from another amazing female blues vocalist.  Check these great artists out.

Artist NameLay Low Moon

Album NameOn This Day Last Year

Label:  Battlement Records

Genre:  Indie Folk

Track Listing:  1.  Late July; 2.  All Affirming; 3.  Second Floor Apartment; 4.  Knew; 5.  On This Day Last Year; 6.  Merideth; 7.  Much Obliged; 8.  Shadow on my Ceiling; 9.  Without You; 10.  The Bottle; 11.  Simple Man; 12.  Thru & Thru

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  Lay Low Moon brings us a beautiful concept album about a love story with the release of On This Day Last Year.  The sound is reminiscent of Plain White T’s and is perfect for radio, especially college radio.  These songs should find a receptive audience as they are universal truths about meeting that special someone and the joy and heartbreak that often comes from a love affair.   It’s not always happily ever after, and the band captures those emotions and shares them in a way that lets the listener know that they are not alone in their feelings.  We are thrilled with their interpretation and presentation of these truths.

Recommendation:  If you love indie music, then this is one of the better bands we have reviewed.  We think this one will capture your heart and is worthy of multiple plays.  Go out and Get it.

Artist NameLawrence Lebo

Album NameOld School Girl

Label:  On the Air Records

Genre:  Blues

Track Listing:  1.  You’ve Got a Secret; 2.  Old School Girl; 3.  Stormy Monday; 4.  Stop Shouting Your Business (explicit remix); 5.  Give me a Try; 6.  Bad to the Core; 7.  Happy Anniversary, Baby (remix); 8.  Stop Shouting Your Business (clean remix)

Publicist:  Blind Raccoon

Review:  Lawrence Lebo is one of the hidden treasures of the blues scene, and is bringing us her sixth album of original songs, six of which were written by Lebo.  The other is a cover of T Bone Burnett‘s “Stormy Monday.”  She has received critical acclaim for her vocals, and this new album will only strengthen her reputation while showcasing her Stax Records influences.  She has also assembled some of the best musicians to aid her in this journey, including Larry David on organ, piano and harmonica and Tony Mandacchia on guitar and banjo, as well as Denny Croy on bass and Steve Mugalian on drums.  Special guests include Phil Parlapiano (“Old School Girl”) and Sasha Smith (“Give me a Try” and “Bad to the Core”) on Hammond B-3, Carl Byron on accordion and Ed Eblen (“Old School Girl”) on drums.  You can’t go wrong with any of the songs on this album, and will probably just put it on repeat so you can hear them again and again.

Recommendation:  If you love the blues, then this is a must-have album.  Get it now.

Artist NameDave Wells

Album NameDave Wells

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Alt Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Run Free; 2.  Picasso’s Cloud; 3.  Aching Hearts; 4.  Cold Rusty Cage; 5.  Cruel Little World; 6.  Falling out of Love; 7.  The Curse; 8.  Monsters; 9.  Dancing with Mirrors; 10.  Not Tonight

Publicist:  Heapsaflash

Review:  On his debut album, Dave Wells delivers a strong, radio friendly collection of songs led by the dynamic “Run Free” and “Picasso’s Cloud.”  Leading offing the album with these two amazing tracks makes the listener want to continue to hear the rest of the album, which is just as good as those first two all important tracks.  This is an album worthy of multiple listens, and the perfect soundtrack for your next party.  There is not a weak track on the album, and the music is moving, uplifting and just plain good.  It is definitely time for this Australian artist to share his music with the world, and to make the trek to America, where we are sure he will find success.

Recommendation:  You simply must Get this one – it’s that damn good.

Artist NameA Very Special Episode

Album NameCut for Time

Label:  Knuckle Down Records

Genre:  Post punk/Shoe-gaze

Track Listing:  1.  Gravity; 2.  Still Here; 3.  Crazy; 4.  Invitation to Delete; 5.  On our own Again

Publicist:  Behind the Curtains Media

ReviewKasey Heisler, lead vocalist of A Very Special Episode, brings power and warmth to the musical sound of the band, and hits the ground running with “Gravity.”  She definitely has one of the stronger voices in this genre, and is worth the price of admission just to hear her.  This is an album that is prime for cross-over and radio airplay, especially on the burgeoning college radio scene.  The energy and chemistry in their music should also play well in a live performance, and we would love the opportunity to see them in concert.

Recommendation:  Definitely Get this one!

Artist NameLost Chocolate Lab

Album NameLost Landscapes

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Ambient

Track Listing:  1.  Contents/Weightless; 2.  Alien Lands; 3.  Squall; 4.  Everything is Heavy; 5.  Foldspace; 6.  Nighttime Drive; 7.  Horseback Headspin; 8.  Shall we Start Over; 9.  Dancing Towards Infinity; 10.  This Could be the End

Publicist:  Shameless Promotion

ReviewDamian Hastbauer aka Lost Chocolate Lab is a virtuoso guitarist who knows how to blend the amazing sound of his guitar with ambient noise, creating the perfect recipe for meditation and relaxation.  This album has great commercial use and is a must have for background music in spas, massage parlors and doctor’s offices in general.  We could also see it used in commercials or as background for your favorite photos.

Recommendation:  If you love relaxing to ambient music, you can’t do better than this.  We highly recommend you Get it.

Get it or forget it – Tired All the Time, Solomon Grey, Koenix, Ace of Wands, Doran Danoff

We’re back to hump day again, and the week is looking good.  We hope you enjoyed the reviews we shared yesterday, because we’ve got five more to share with you today.  Let’s get started.

Artist NameTired All the Time

Album Name Be Well

Label:  Flag Day Recordings

Genre:  Doom Pop

Track Listing:  1.  Bone Dry; 2.  Little Pieces; 3.  The Only Exception; 4.  Dogface; 5.  Black Jello; 6.  Flower

Publicist:  Noisy Ghost PR

Review:  With a post punk vibe, Tired All the Time hits the ground running on their latest release with “Bone Dry.”  The album only gets better from that point as the band delivers some rocking doom pop that energizes the listener with the steady drum beat and stirring guitars.  “Little Pieces” borrows heavily from 80s new wave, giving the band a sound like Depeche Mode.  These songs are radio friendly, and deserve significant airplay.  Every song is worthy of repeated listens.

Recommendation:  We think you need this one in  your collection.  Go out and Get it.

Artist NameSolomon Grey

Album Name Human Remix

Label:  Mercury KX

Genre:  EDM/Pop

Track Listing:  1.  The Game (Little Dragons remix); 2.  Elements (Alex Somers remix); 3.  Wonderful World (Nightmare on Wax remix); 4.  Home (secret bonus track)

Publicist:  Mystic Sons

Review:  With a voice that reminds us of the late great David Bowie, Solomon Grey and his friends provide EDM and pop remixes of songs from his latest album, Human Music.   Electro-pop band Little Dragons takes “The  Game” to a new level with their dance floor remix, while Alex Somers brings a ethereal and majestic sound to “Elements.”  The Nightmare on Wax remix of “Wonderful World” strips away most of the vocals in favor of an extended dance track, which definitely should get you up and dancing.  The EP closes with the truly amazing sound of secret bonus track, “Home,” that shows the awesomeness of the songwriting abilities of Grey.  It closes the album with a crescendo that should take the listener to a beautiful place while we wait for whatever is next to come.

Recommendation:  This one is a keeper.  Get it.

Artist NameKoenix

Album Name Dekade 1

Label:  Hicktown Records

Genre:  Folk Rock

Track Listing:  1.  Òtre Sur Soleare; 2.  Bi De Fahrende; 3.  Hingerem Mond; 4.  Märliland; 5.  Wildwassertanz; 6.  Schnee; 7.  Dürs Füür; 8.  Tyras Song; 9.  Perelin; 10.  Winter Wie Ist; 11.  Dr. Zwirbelzwärghärgurärchuägstäg; 12.  Stärnemeer; 13.  Hinter Dem Mond; 14.  Behind the Moon

Publicist:  Hicktown Records

Review:  This is a true multi-cultural experience, hearing a Swiss band on a German label channeling Irish/Celtic and Middle Eastern folk tunes that will get you on your feet and dancing.  You don’t need to understand the lyrics to enjoy the feel of this music, and it quickly becomes obvious why this band has become popular enough to warrant this ‘Best of’ album celebrating their first 10  years as a band.  All your favorite Celtic and Middlel Eastern instruments are included, including djembe drums, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, bagpipes, penny whistle and the big bass drum.  Enjoy this delicious desert!

Recommendation:  You simply must Get this one!

Artist NameAce of Wands

Label:  Self-released

Genre:  Alt/Indie Rock

Track Listing:  1.  10,000 Feet; 2.  Float the Flood; 3.  Hearts Disease

Publicist:  Self-promoted

Review:  We introduced this Canadian band to you in May with the review of their album Grown From Good, and their back again with a three-song EP that picks up where the last one left off.  This band continues to impress with impressive guitars, amazing songwriting and soaring vocals and harmonies that simply must be experienced.  These songs are radio friendly and would do well on American radio.  We would also love to see them performing here as well.  You can’t miss with these three beautiful songs, and we only wish there were more.  The title track will have you singing along with its inspirational theme.

Recommendation:  Drop everything and Get this one now!

Artist NameDoran Danoff

Album NameKing of Crown City

Label:  Urbivor Records

Genre:  Soul/Blues

Track Listing:  1.  So Bad; 2.  Amazed; 3.  Young Love; 4.  Winning; 5.  Lady be Good; 6.  Dr. Solution; 7.  Gertrude’s Blues; 8.  Queen of Hearts; 9.  Over the Roll

Publicist:  Urbivor Records

Review:  Combine the sound of James Brown with the funkiness of the Blues Brothers and you have an inkling of the greatness that is contained on this sophomore album from Los Angeles based musician Doran Danoff.  This album delivers a classic sound that is instantly accessible to music lovers of every genre.  This one will have you up and moving to the groove while it tickles your ears with some of the best indie music to come out of Los Angeles this year.

Recommendation:  Rush out and Get this one.  You won’t regret it.
