Monday mashup 2021 (vol 9)

Welcome to March and our weekly dose of new singles and music videos.  Just got my first vaccine shot and not experiencing any side effects so far.  Looking forward to this month as we finally get a vacation and will be heading off to North Carolina for a week to visit friends and look at possible homes for our upcoming move.  In the meantime, chill and rock out to these great indie artists.

NEW SINGLES

A lot of indie musicians have relied on his blog, Ari’s Take, as well as his amazing book about navigating the music business, How to Make it in the Music BusinessAri Herstand is also an accomplished musician in his own right, and has recently released new music.  Check out this smooth and chill tune, “Drifting.”

Next up is the latest release from Gerry Beckley from his solo hits project, Keeping the Light On, from Blue Élan Records.  Last week we shared a cover of his song “Survival,” and this week we present “(I’m Your) Heart Slave.”  Enjoy!

Our third single is the latest from the amazing LA indie artist, Terra Naomi.  Looking back I can’t believe we haven’t featured her before, but we are rectifying that situation now.  “What we Do” was released on February 26, and we are so happy we are able to share it with you.  Grab a glass of wine, sit back and allow her peaceful voice to wash over your soul.

Several years ago we had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of some great female singer-songwriters during our So Cal Music Live competition.  Two of those ladies, Mallory Trunnell and Lauren Harding, went on to form the indie Country/Americana band, Crimson Calamity.  We are pleased to share their brand new single, “Due West,” which was also released on February 26. This one is perfect for country dancing or just chilling after a hard day.

Our final single this week is from a rising star, Ava Maybee.  Her voice is strong and refreshing, and the beat is steady with a trace of jazzy R&B funk.  Check out her latest, “See Me Now,” and we think you’ll want to bookmark this artist.  We expect great things from her.  Thanks to Ue3 Promotions for turning us on to her.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video this week creates a unique situation for our blog – the first time we are debuting both a single and video from the same artist at the same time.  Crimson Calamity chose to simultaneously release their single, “Due West,” and the accompanying lyric video, and we are overjoyed to share both of them with you.  Enjoy this soon to be hit song and enjoy the California scenery.

We introduced you to Huron John a couple of weeks ago, and we are proud to feature another of his videos.  This time, he’s “Stuck in a Lava Light.”  Enjoy this one, which also debuted on February 26.

Our third video this week is the lyrical visualization of the latest from Shannon Clark & the Sugar‘s song, “Let it Ride.”  We introduced them back in January, and think this one belongs on Outlaw Country radio.  Let us know what you think.

Remember back in grade school when we used a zither in music class?  Well, Chelsea Williams brings that memory back with the video for “Skin and Bones,” her latest from Blue Élan.  Thanks Chelse for keeping it real and being a truly original indie artist.

We close out this week with a new one from People Club that is both trendy and retro, and we can’t get it out of our heads.  Head to the dance floor with “Take me Home.”

Monday mashup 2021 (vol 3)

Happy MLK Day!  Hope you had a great weekend and are ready for some great new music, including the latest video from multi-LA Music Critic Award winning band, The Spider Accomplice.  Let’s get going.

NEW SINGLES

We kick things off this week with the latest from country/ Americana powerhouse Peggy James.  We think it is the perfect song for this new year, and we pray that our “Guardian Angel” will direct our paths during 2021,

Next up is England-born rocker Tommy Newport.  Check out his groovy tune called “Yellow Line.”  This one will definitely get your toes tapping.

Our third single comes from the band Welshly Arms and should be considered THE anthem for 2021.  The song speaks of hope and change and we are totally inspired after listening.  Let’s join the band, knowing that “I Will Overcome.”

Next up is the first new “Christian Rock” we have heard in quite some time.  We love the way they have brought the story of the Book of Exodus to life, and remind us of one of the pioneers of Christian rock, Petra.  Check out The Word66 and their single, “On the Way to the Promise Land.”

Our final single this week is from the intriguing pop band KITTEN.  They ask the simple question, “Do U Still Love Me?”  After hearing this song, the resounding response is “Yes.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

As promised, here is the brand new music video from one of our all-time favorite bands, the multi-talented and multi-awarded alternative rock band The Spider Accomplice.  This one is more of a power ballad than their usual style, and we will definitely “Keep” playing this one.

We love great Americana music because of the stories they tell, and this new one from Shannon Clark and the Sugar is one of the most powerful we’ve heard since “Whiskey Lullaby.”  Watch this powerful video and let the words of “Carry Me” sink in.

Our third video is courtesy of Angela Leese, the drummer for one of our favorite punk bands, Taco Mouth.  She likewise shines on this song by punk/new rock guitarist Jax Hollow which will truly rock your socks, and leave you with a desire to “Say my Name.”

Next is the latest from Valleyheart, a band with a true classic rock sound that reminds us of the 90’s.  The song is called “T.I.K.,” which is an acronym for Thoughts I Keep.  Listen carefully to the words of the song and rock out to the beat.

Our final video this week is “Francine” from People Club, a band we introduced you to back in October 2019.  This one is equally as different, and we invite you to check it out.

Monday mashup 2019: vol. 30

Well, it’s official – we are now residents of Midwest City, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City.  We move into our new apartment tomorrow, although most of our stuff is still in storage in Missoula, Montana, where it will stay until the spring when the snow leaves and it is safe to move it.  Until then, we will get by on borrowed items and cheap substitutes, but we have the essentials we need.  Hopefully, our work schedules will become more firm and we will be able to schedule time to get back to regular posts here on Indie Voice Blog.  We ask for your patience until we are truly “back to normal.”

Last week we attended the Andy Grammer concert, and will be posting our review tomorrow.  In the meantime, here are five new singles and music videos from some amazing indie artists.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week will drop tomorrow, but we are giving you a sneak preview of it today.  We love the dreamy sound of Doter Sweetly, who were previously known as Grandpa Grew Trees.  We reviewed their last album, and are pleased to share the new sound of the band contained in their latest single, “Baby Boy.”  Let us know what you think.

Next up is a beautiful cover of The Rolling Stones‘ classic song, “As Tears go By” from LA Music Critic Award winners and Blue Élan Records artists Mustangs of the West.  This song has never sounded better.

Single number three comes from down under and features the folk sound of Eric Prod.  The single is called “From me to you (part 2),” and we love it.  This one would do well in our Americana market.

Next up is A Choir of Ghosts from Scandinavia with an idyllic folk sound that would do quite well in the American folk/Americana scene.  Check out “An Ounce of Gold” and let us know what you think.

Our final single is from BINX, one of the most unique indie artists in LA.  Her latest is called “Milk,” and we need to hear this sweet song on Top 40 radio.  This one is deserves repeated listens.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first music video is a simply beautiful arrangement by one of our favorite LA indie artists who is usually known more for her rocking sound than as a mellow songwriter.  We love the creative growth she shows in her latest project, “Return Home,” and think you will likewise fall in love with Abby Posner.

Our next video is short and sweet and gives us just a taste of the brilliance that is Jay Katana.  His concept for “Letter From Child” has has salivating over the release of his next project.  Enjoy this dark sweet tidbit.

Video number three is from the dreamy Kat Cunning and is equally as cinematic and dramatic as her soaring vocals.  We think this one would be great on the radio and would be perfect for placement in movies and television.  Check out “For the Love.”

Video number four is from another LA Music Critic Award winner, Dree Mon, and is as equally dance-compelling as her last two videos.  Get up and dance to the sound of “When it Goes Down.”  We guarantee you won’t be able to sit down for this one.

Our final video this week is an animated one from People Club for their song, “Kil Scott.”  This one is a keeper, and we suggest you put it on repeat.
