Monday mashup 2021 (vol 2)

Hope you survived the NFL’s first six game wild card weekend.  It was an interesting one, with plenty of football action as well as the arrival of Hawaii 5-0 on the Ion television network.  Regardless of how you spent your weekend, it’s time now for another week of great indie music and the unveiling of this week’s Monday Mashup.

NEW SINGLES

We get this week off to a good start with the release of “Hey Beautiful” from intriguing artist Black MP Well.  We love the reggae feel of this one and think you will too.  It also has a great message that everyone is beautiful, regardless of how they look on the outside.

Next up is a sweet and smooth tune from the incomparable Toby Lightman.  This time around she talks about the “Ebb and Flow” of life, and provides the perfect soundtrack for a new week.

Our third single comes from British husband and wife duo Toby & Pip.  We love the simplified sound of their harmonies and are inspired by the message of truth and hope in their single “New Year.”

Next up is an incredible single from Las Vegas-based singer Sabriel.  Her dreamy groove and sexy lyrics will entice you to check out her entire library.  Give a listen to “Love Again.”

Our final single this week has a dynamic 80’s vibe that carries its message of hope and friendship.  We are proud to present Sleepwoka with his latest creation, “Together We Are.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Today was the 25th anniversary of the start of Life.Church.  To celebrate this monumental occasion, their worship team has released a stunning lyric video for their song, “As You Are.”  This song shares the love and vision of this church, and shares the hope and promise of being around people that truly accept you.  Congratulations and here’s to the next 25 years.

Next up is the latest from LA Music Critic Award-winning singer-songwriter Dree Mon.  We simply love the sentiments expressed and the beat keeps drawing us out to the dance floor.  Enjoy the amazing visuals for “Love me at my Best.”

We haven’t featured any hard rock in a bit, but we found the perfect vehicle in the form of alternative metal band HURANOVA from Italy.  Check out this video for their song, “Need,” and pay homage to the next great female lead vocalist.

Our fourth video is a powerful summary of the events of 2020, coupled with hope for the future.  Check out Jeff Coffey‘s stunning video for “Someday.”  If the voice sounds familiar, that’s because he used to sing for one of our favorite bands, Chicago.

We close out this week with an animated lyric video of the debut single by Brady Lee, complete with the perfect amount of Jimmy Buffett/Luke Bryan swagger.  He says “I Can do This All Day,” and we hope he can.

Monday mashup 2020 (vol 13)

Had to work 10 hours yesterday but I’m off this morning.  Happy to share some great new songs with you and encourage you to continue to support indie musicians.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is from the forthcoming album Born Free by Soul Asylum on Blue Élan Records.  We have always loved this band and their newest is easily becoming one of our favorites.  Check out this acoustic version of “If I Told You.”

Next up is another artist from Blue Élan, the legendary Rusty Young of Poco, who is joined by Suzanna Spring of Mustangs of the West (still another Blue Élan artist) on this amazing Americana track, “Waiting on You.”  It doesn’t get much better than this.

Next up is another Blue Élan artist, the up and coming star named Car Astor.  Her latest is a stirring cover of the classic Nilsson song, “Without You.”  This one is going to be legendary.

Our fourth single comes from an artist that goes by the name Hey Bertha.  Her debut single is called “Your Name,” and we believe that she could easily become a household name.  Check out this amazing song.

Our final single this week is from one of the founding members of The Romantics, Mike Skill.  He wrote their mega hit, “What I Like About You.”  His solo work is just as impressive as he teaches us about the “’67 Riot.”  Rock on!

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

First up this week is another hilarious video from the Blue Élan Records’ Queen of Comedy, Scout Durwood.  She gives us a fun little ditty with “Sad Ukelele.”  Enjoy this break from the seriousness of COVID-19.

Next up is a live performance video of “Lily White” from the upcoming album The Peppermint Sessions by Red Wanting Blue, our final Blue Élan artist today.

Our third music video is the latest lyric video from Life.Church Worship of their new song, “When I Say Jesus.”  Let the words of the song heal all your broken parts.

We were proud to feature Dauzat St. Marie last week, and they’re back with a lyric video this week, “Falling Again.”  The vocals remind us of Jennifer Nettles, and we love that Heather is back at full  vocal force.  Enjoy this one.

We close out this week with the latest from Emily Breeze.  She gives thoughtful advice to the younger generation in her heart-felt although slightly wacky rock and roll tribute song, “Hey Kidz.”

Monday mashup 2020 (vol 11)

We’re back!  After a flurry of Pizza Hut RGM (that’s restaurant general manager) resignations, I have had to work 70+ hours for each of the past three weeks.  In fact, today is only my second day off since this began.  So much great music has been released recently that we hardly know where to start.  We hope you are as excited by these new tunes as we are in sharing them.

NEW SINGLES

Our first new single is from Alecia Nugent, with a country gem that will definitely pull at your heart strings.  Check out “They Don’t Make ’em Like my Daddy Anymore.”

Next up is a timely song from Blue Élan Records resident country songstress, Chelsea Williams.  Listen to the words and take action – “No Justice, No Peace.”

Single number three is a call to action to those who haven’t learned that “Actions speak louder then words.”  It’s been a long time since Ali Handal released new music, and based on her latest, the wait was worth it.  Listen to “Shut Your Mouth and Do Something,” and take it to heart.

We have a special YouTube single for you today, with the release of the latest from South Africa’s own Cara Frew.  She’s “Waiting for Love,” and we don’t want her to wait any longer.

Next up is a song that combines the resources of the uber-talented Shooter Jennings with his long-time friend and bassist, Ted Russell Kamp.  “Home Sweet Hollywood” is from Kamp’s latest offering, From the Den, and shows that Kamp is not just a supporting musician by a front man on his own.  Enjoy this groovy tune.

Our final single this week is the perfect marriage of blues and rock, and feels like BB King and Jimi Hendrix had a love child.  Enjoy the rocking “Touch the Sky,” from the James Pace Band.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

We kick off our music videos this week with the latest lyric video from Life.Church Worship, from their forthcoming EP, Jesus is Near, which will be released on August 14.  Here’s “Never Will.”

Back in July 1983, Christian music was changed with the birth of STRYPER, the first Christian metal band.  The band has announced the release of their new album, Even the Devil Believes, on September 4.  In the meantime, they have released a lyric video for the timely “Make Love Great Again.”  We are so  happy to have them back.

Our next lyric video is from BLAZAR, aka Jerad Finck, who is joined by DAXSEN on “Tomorrow.”  It is no wonder this latest collaboration is headed to the top of the charts.

One of our favorite Latin artists, Vanessa Zamora, has a sure hit with the R&B-tinged stylings of “Ayer.”  This one will help you get your groove on.

We close out this edition of Monday Mashup with the latest masterpiece from Ben Fuller.  “Find my Faith” will strengthen your own resolve to make it through these trying days.

Monday mashup 2020 (vol 9)

Hard to believe that I started writing this article back on May 4.  The Covid-19 pandemic has been hard on me, and I’ve been less motivated to write.  I have been averaging around 50 hours a week working at Pizza Hut as a shift manager, and my few off days are usually spent resting up.  As a result, I have not published anything in the past nine weeks.  What really hurts is that no one seems to have noticed, as not one single person has checked up on me.  The review requests just keep on coming, but there has been no personal touch, and I almost feel like I’m wasting my time here.

Don’t get me wrong.  A lot of great music has been released in the past two months, and I still think that more than ever, we need good music to help us survive and persevere during these trying times.  But just because we have to be socially distant outside doesn’t mean that we can’t still be close on line.

In the midst of this chaos, here are five new singles and music videos that we hope will give you the strength to carry on, whether you are still on quarantine or an essential worker.

NEW SINGLES

This first single sums it up for us, and I’m sure many of you are in the same boat.  We have proud to present Magnus Bechmann with his new single, “Uneasy,” which is truly how we feel right now.  It’s super sweet, but listen carefully to the words.

Our next single comes from Finland, advocating “The Next Great Holiday.”  We love this song and think this new band, Fan Theories, has a great future ahead of them.

One of LA’s most unique artists is back with another sure-fire hit.  Check out “Diamonds,” the latest from the one and only Binx.

Single number four comes from BBC favorites, The Trusted.  We love their sound and are moved by their lyrics.  Here is their latest, “The Innocent.”

Our final single this week is also from the UK and features the 80’s influenced sound of Ben Hobbs.  We could listen to this one all day, and we think you’ll really dig the sound of “Own Arms.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

We just celebrated our Independence Day, and the best fireworks were provided by our favorite LA rock band, The Spider Accomplice.  They have truly set a new bar with their latest epic song, “Crawl.”  Our first reaction was a comparison to Evanescence meets Queen.  What do you think?

Next up is our favorite singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, the sweet and prolific Kris Angelis.  She has just released a beautiful lyric video for her song “Ghost (I’m Alive and Breathing),” and we think it’s her best song ever, with the perfect country vibe.  Take the lyrics to heart.

Speaking of lyric videos, the folks at Life.Church Worship have released their latest, “Heaven’s All Around.”  We think this is one of the best worship songs ever written.

Our fourth video features one of LA’s brightest LGBQT+ performers, Abby Posner.  She speaks her mind in her song “Blind Spots,” doing the song with multiple versions of herself.  Definitely listen to the lyrics and shine a light on your own blind spots.

We close out this week with a timely video from Lucy & La Mer, who remind us that we are all in this “Together.”
