Monday mashup 2019: vol. 36

Hard to believe that December has arrived and 2019 is coming to a close.  In the weeks ahead we will be releasing our lists of the best singles, videos and albums of the year, as well as sharing some new holiday classics.  But before we do that, here’s our first Monday Mashup of the month.

CALIFORNIA COUNTRY SHOW RADIO PODCAST

In the “It’s About Time” category, the California Country Show Radio Podcast has announced that it will begin a series entitled “Trailblazers – Women in Country Music.”   The podcast will feature in-depth interviews with the women who set the stage for the future of country music, and we for one can’t wait to check it out.  Here’s the schedule:

December 2nd:  Dixie Jade  https://www.dixiejade.com/

December 9th:  Julia Hatfield  https://www.juliahatfield.com/

December 16th:  Honey County  http://www.honeycounty.com/

December 23rd:  Darci Carlson  https://www.facebook.com/darcicarlsonmusic/

December 30th:  Sheyna Gee  http://www.sheynagee.com/

For more info, check out their website.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single comes from Julia Jonas, who we think has the potential to truly clear the “Air.”  We are in love with her amazing voice and the words of the song are so uplifting.

Our next single is a true rocker from Nuns of the Tundra.  Check out “Sign in Blood.”

We introduced you to Australia’s The Skelton Collective last January, and they’re back with a new single, “Coffee & Hope.”  We are glad to hear more from this amazing group.  Put this one on repeat.

Our fourth single comes from Lostboycrow, and is full of retro influences.  Check out “Moonlight,” and get up and dance.

Our final single this week is from Unbroken Expanse and simply titled “Go.”  We highly recommend you enjoy this one and add them to your list of future superstars.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first music video this month is from the brilliant band Papyllon, who we recently introduced to you.  Here is the lyric video for their latest, “All the Time,” and we can see this song becoming a huge hit.

Next up is an interesting video from California’s Dankrupt, who seem to be “Drowning” in great musical ideas.  We love their sound and think  you will too.

Need an escape this holiday season from all the stress of shopping?  We highly recommend you put on the latest video from Eric Tingstad and find your “Solace.”

Next up is a very special video of the song Erick Macek wrote for his wife for their wedding day.  Check out the simple beauty of “Your Hand.”  See if it doesn’t spark you to be more romantic.

We close out the week with this beautiful original Christmas song by Christian artist Plumb.  She tells us “It’s Christmastime.”  Enjoy the season.

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 27

It’s our final Monday Mashup of the month, and we have some great new music to share with you.  Check out the latest news as well.

LA MUSIC CRITIC TO DEBUT SHOW AT HFF19

Our very own LA Music Critic, Bob Leggett, will be debuting a solo show at next year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival.  Inspired by the amazing productions put on by the Soaring Solo Community, he has hired Jessica Lynn Johnson to help him develop his show, Livin’ the Dream, which will debut at HFF19 next year.  The show is the story of his life and career, focusing on not just dreaming about great things, but accomplishing them as well.  Watch for the Indiegogo campaign being launched in August, and support him on his latest adventure.  We are very proud to be a part of what should be a great show.

VK LYNNE RELEASES AUDIO BOOK OF POETRY

VK Lynne, the lead single of multi-LA Music Critic Award winning band The Spider Accomplice is releasing an audio book containing 35 of her poems, read by a plethora of her friends.  Entitled The Release and Reclamation of Victoria Kerygma, the audiobook is available on Bandcamp.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single this week is from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, members of the Mountain Home Music family of artists.  They have created a beautiful song that is being released to support the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Trust Fund which, like the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, provides support for struggling artists.  We think you will love this beautiful arrangement and we hope you will likewise support these organizations that help indie musicians.

Our next single is an upbeat pop tune from Mike Edel.  He was featured in our March Ten Great Singles article, and this time around, he promises he will “Go With You.”  We think this one could be a huge hit, and look forward to what’s still to come from this amazing artist.

Our third single is being released by Elkka through Femme Culture, and is an upbeat dance tune called “Stay (warm edit).”  We think this one goes hand in hand with our previous single, and should help get your Monday off to a great start.

Our fourth single continues the positive spin as CJ Hooper releases his first track from his forthcoming album.  “When we Rise” is the perfect remedy for the Monday blahs.

Our final single this week comes from Caibedo Island.  They encourage us to be “Stronger,” and we love the sentiment.

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first music video comes from an artist we reviewed last week, Roger Len Smith, who was introduced to us by a long-time friend Bobbo Byrnes, lead vocalist of The Fallen Stars.  Here is “Raining on a Sunny Day.”

Next up is the latest video from Grammy-nominated artist Janiva Magness for the title track from her latest album on Blue Élan Records, Love is an Army, featuring LA Music Critic Award winning artist Bryan Stephens.  We hope you enjoy this one as much as we do.

Our third video this week is a political statement about gentrification of our great cities.  Nick Ferrio releases “I Don’t Know How Long” and we totally understand his concerns.

Our fourth video has the rhythm of the islands as Constanza Herrero talks about “Packing Up.”  This video should get your juices flowing and get you on the dance floor.

Our final video this week is the R&B and soul sound of Roxanne Tataei.  Here’s “Crimson Eyes.”  We hope this firmly places your Monday in a good place.  Have a great week and we’ll be back soon with our articles on the Ten Amazing Videos and Ten Great Singles released in July.

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 18

Happy Monday – hope you are all recovered from your Cinco de Mayo celebrations.  I spent the weekend working at a Grizzly track meet, played our first softball game of the year, handed out water at a half-marathon to support Veteran Suicide Awareness & Prevention, and got hired by CMS to work the summer concert series at Big Sky Brewery.  I’ve also been working on my schedule of shows to review at the ninth annual Hollywood Fringe Festival, and already have 21 shows confirmed.  Hope to see 40-50 during my two weeks in Los Angeles next month.   We will be publishing our list of most anticipated shows later this month.

We’ve got some news for you today, as well as five new singles and music videos to check out.  Let’s get going.

INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING COMPETITION UPDATE

After reviewing more than 16,000 entries, the 2017 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has concluded, and a Denver-based indie EDM artist has won the Grand Prize.  Nick Miller, better known to his fans as Illenium, takes home the Grand Prize for his song, “Crawl Outta Love ft. Annika Wells.”  The song was co-written with Annika Wells, Kate Morgan and Michael Blancaniello, and was released on his sophomore album Awake.  Wells and his co-writers will receive $25,000 in cash and more than $35,00 in additional prizes.  Here’s that award-winning song.

STACY JONES BAND TOURING EUROPE AFTER WINNING MORE AWARDS

The Stacy Jones Band, who we reviewed back in September, continue to pile up the accolades.  They recently took home 10 awards at the Best of the Blues, including Best Blues Band, Best Blues Recording (“Love is Everywhere”), Best Female Vocalist, Best Songwriter, Best Harmonica, Best Blues Bass, Best Blues Drummer, Best Blues Writer, Keeping the Blues Alive and Best Non-Festival Blues Event.  To celebrate, the band began their European tour on May 4, playing their first of eight shows in Switzerland.  The band will perform in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands before heading back home next weekend.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single, “Everything Nearly Comes Apart Completely,” comes from Dante Matas.  We love his sound, and think you will too.

Our second single comes all the way from Stockholm, Sweden, and is the debut for Sabine Women.  Here is their song, “Buenos Aires.”

Moving over to Germany for our next single, here is Bonnie Li with “Décroche.”  We love the mix of English, French, and Mandarin.

We rock it up with our fourth single this week from Feel Alright.  Here is their single, “Truth About Us,” from their new album set for release on May 18.

Our final new single today is from one of our favorite up and coming singer-songwriters, who we have been following for several years.  We really think you will love “Sonic Baby” by Santa Barbara-based indie artist Jamey Geston, which just had its radio premiere last night.

https://soundcloud.com/jamey-geston-music/sonic-baby-final/s-sAVqT

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Our first video this week comes from  YouTube darling Megan Davies for her single, “Doesn’t Matter.”  We think they’re on to something, as we are adding this artist to our hot list.  We don’t mind jumping on the bus for her.

Next up is “Dino” by The Mountain Carol.  It is a raw rock song with powerful cinematography.  Definitely check them out.

Our third new music video is an homage to The King.  Check out Australian Susie Scurry and her tune, “The Elvis Hour.”

Our next video is the final single from the debut album for All for Darcy.  Check out “Ordinary Life.”

Our final video this week is “I See You Among the Stars,” a chill tune from Jessica Risker.  Have a wonderful week.

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 11

So happy that tomorrow is the first day of Spring – have really enjoyed the weather starting to warm up here in Montana.  In just a few more short months, it will be June and we’ll be in California for the Hollywood Fringe Festival and the 2nd annual LA Music Critic Awards Winners Showcase on June 19 at the Mint on Pico Boulevard.  Watch for more details.

ASHLEY DELIMA IS A DREAMER WITH A VOICE

Up and coming indie artist Ashley Delima is a dreamer, an actual DACA candidate with a personal stake in this political hot potato.  Two weeks ago we shared her story and the single she has written about it.  Today we want to continue to share with the release of a very moving music video that further portrays the story playing out around our country.  Please do something.  We love your dream, Ashley – please Stay in America!

NEW SINGLES

Last month we introduced you to Aja Warren.  Her brand new album is about to be released (and we will review it shortly), but she has already released her second single.  Her is the very moving ballad “Infinite Stranger.”  This one should help get your week off to a great start.

Our second single comes from Amsterdam and features the electronic sound of Rembrandtpark with their single, “Morning Sun.”  We really love this one, which has a definite R&B groove.  Let us know what you think.

Our final single today is a rocker that should jump-start  your week with a punk infused indie tune from The DTEASE.  Here’s their single “Slapshot.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Up first is a lyric video from Vessbroz (ft. Kyle Davis) for their song “Nothing.”  This one has a great message.

Next up is the laid back sound of Lucy Wise with her single, “Solid Ground.”  We love the cinematography and think you’ll dig it too.

Last but not least, here’s something very interesting from Jessica Lea Mayfield.  This one is visually stimulating and the song is pretty cool as well.  Let us know what you think.

We’ll be back tomorrow with ten more videos we have recently received.  If you love music videos, then join us here then 🙂

Monday mashup 2018: vol. 9

March has arrived so spring shouldn’t be too far behind!  What did you think about the Oscars last night?  Besides the fact that it was long, we were delighted to see the focus shift onto the hard-working ladies and minorities who have contributed so much and received so little recognition.  With that in mind, let’s look at what’s happening in the indie world.

UM CIRCUS CLUB TO HOST FIRST EVER RENAISSANCE FAIRE

The University of Montana Circus Club is hosting their spring fundraiser, and it’s a mini-Renaissance Faire!  The event will occur on Sunday, March 11 from 2-5:30 p.m. in Schreiber Gym on the campus of the University of Montana.  It is right next to the Library on the southeastern corner of campus.

There is a $5/person suggested donation, or $15 per family (bring all the kids!)  Please pay at the door with cash!

The faire will include food and beverage (of course), a costume and “Best Knees-in-a-Kilt” contests with prizes, live weapons and combat demonstrations, archery and axe-throwing activities, circus performances, face painting, crafting workshops, and a photo booth with costumes and props.  Costumes will also be available for rent.

THE AUDIENCE AWARDS ANNOUNCE BIG SKY WINNERS

The recently concluded Big Sky Documentary Film Festival included a Native American Doc Challenge this year, which was run by the Audience Awards.  Here were their winners:

The First Place Jury Winner was Derrick Lamere, with his film United by Water, while the Jury Honorable Mention went to Anthony Florez for Generations.

Check out the top eight films which are competing for the $5,500 prize by clicking here.  Voting runs April 4-10.

NEW SINGLES

Our first single today comes from a band we have previously reviewed who has recently signed with Blue Élan Records.  Please check out “Tip of my Tongue” by Mint Trip.

Next up is a young artist named Ashley Delima, who has a lot to say with her single, “Stay in America.”  She is a living example of a Dreamer, and wants to tell everyone why she wants to stay here.   She is an American born child who was raised in Brazil but has now settled in New Jersey.  The song is a shout-out to those struggling to stay in the U.S. at a time when DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) is being threatened.  The song was produced by two-time Grammy winning producer Marc Swersky (Joe Cocker, Hillary Duff) and mixed by Mark Needham (Imagine Dragons, Fleetwood Mac).  Please share her story.

Our final single today comes to us from Amsterdam and features Belle and the Beats with their single, “Soldier of the Night.”

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS

Last week we had the pleasure of reviewing Floods.  They have now released a music video for their first single, “Heavy Hearts.”  We hope you dig it as much as we do.

Our second new video features acclaimed actor Danny Trejo in the latest video from The Zephyr Bones.  Check out “The Arrow of our Youth.”

Our third video is from Blue Élan Records’ latest revival artist, Fanny Walked the Earth.  We simply love this video for the amazing single, “Lured Away.”  Don’t forget to check out their review as well.

Our final video this week is from Little Stranger for their single, “Sing it High.”  this should get your week off to a great start.

INDIE NEWS

Our dear friend and faithful indie supporter Heather Jacks has a couple of events coming up.  First up is the premiere of the Stilettos for Shanghai documentary For Chechyna on August 7 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, which is a fundraiser for ORAM and Rainbow Railroad.  The second is the Project Nunway 8 Charity Fashion Drag Show on August 19 at SOMArts in San Francisco.  Please support these worthy events.

IPO (International Pop Overthrow) is coming back to Los Angeles.  Please support local indie artists like Patricia Bahia, who will be performing at Club Fais Do Do at 1:45 p.m. on August 4.

NEW MUSIC

CHVNGES is an amazing band with a new single, “Mischief Managed,” being released on Friday.  We love it and think you will too.  Check it out and let us know what you think.

Another band we covered last year, Junk Parlor, is releasing its single “Vultures and Weasels” on Sunday.  They have a very distinctive sound that we think you’ll like.

NEW  MUSIC VIDEOS

Our featured video this week comes from Denmark.  Straw is an amazingly talented family with a mom and two daughters who can truly sing.  This video rocks and we are proud to feature it today.  Expect great things from them as they expand their reach internationally.  We believe they would be an outstanding addition to the American music scene.  Special thanks to Doug Deutsch Publicity Services for sharing this treasure with us.

Los Angeles transplant Caitlin Eadie has recently released a new album, Balancing Act, as well as a music video for her current single “Wolf Cry.”  We think it is one of the best we’ve seen in a while, and think you’ll agree.

Last but not least this week is the new lyric video for “New Kids” by multiple LA Music Critic Award winner Jerad Finck.  He has been blowing up recently with both “New Kids” and “Criminal” charting nationally.  Enjoy this treasure.
